| Quote: Maccbull_BigBullyBooaza "That has absolutely no bearing on whether he'll be a good head coach or not what so ever. That's the job of the development coach or what ever they call them these days. Every club in the SUper league know with the exception of that soul less franchise in Wrexham has it's own academy churning out quality players that are filling up their own squads. My friend used to work for harlequins and she says it's the culture within the organisation as a whole from board level down. Brian McDermott has undoubtedly put his heart and a lot of work into it but so has Steve Macnamara at Bradford. I think the club need to appoint the man that will get the best out of the first team squad as a priority over everything else as if the current slump (and I'm talking about the last five years and I'm not holding Macnamara responsible for that) continues there'll be only us lot on here rattling around the Odsal Bowl by the end of next season. In that respect we need the coach to have been at winning clubs from a marketing point of view or season ticket sales could tumble.
That's the priority and the man to do it will be revealed this week.'"
And yet it has every bearing on whether he would be a good coach or otherwise.
It goes beyond stating the obvious to point out that any club would seek to appoint on the basis of maximising the potential of the current squad. It's a given.
My point on the two potentials is quite clear. Both have differing qualities and it's a coin flip as to who would be offered the role. I don't also go with this myth of needing a coach from winning clubs. Tony Smith, Brian McClennan, Nathan Brown, Michael McGuire, Matthew Elliott all candidly demonstrate this continues to be an urban myth. If it's a winning culture you are eluding to, then again, it's a split hair between them both.
For me, McDermott, but again I can't think many fans would be disappointed with either.

Don't believe a word MBBB says. It's 11.15 not 11.00.

| If it's McDermott forget the next few years, it just seems to me that the management have NO idea on how to take the club forward, watch thfan base drop next year.

"Danny Tickle added the extras and the Bulls, who are set to appoint St Helens boss Mick Potter as their new coach for next season, couldn’t find a way back."
More repeated rumour from a dubious source, but a straw to clutch at for people wanting potter rather than McDermott.

| No they have come up with a scheme where everyone who doesn't renew their season ticket has to explain, in person, to McDermott why they aren't. Remember they have your address.

| so basically we have guardian and league weekly saying mcdermott, daily star, daily mail and league express saying potter, oz press saying jason taylor. bearing in mind last week daily star was saying taylor and guardian was saying noble. Plus barrie mcdermott on superleague show saying noble would be coaching a west yorkshire team next year.
At the end of the day they are all guessing and hoping they get it right imo. Hopefully board will make a decision and make it public by end of the week as the uncertainty isnt helping us at all.

And hopefully whichever club the new coach is currently coaching will let him go early.

If it is Potter I can't see Saints letting him go early.

Me neither. Quins may let McDermott just because their season is even more over than ours, but I agree, Saints aren't gonna let Potter go while they've got a chance of winning the league (and cup).

That won't happen. Rightly or wrongly.
I will predict that the man who will get the job will have won 2 Grand Finals, adored by the fans at his former club, has a great attitude and highly respected by players he coaches. As to which continent he reigns from, who knows

Why have a coach whose current team had continually been lower in the league than the bulls, and has no signs of progressing further!! if this is taking the team forward I am stunned.

depends who saints have lined up as his successor. there is talk of his assistant purtill stepping up. If theres anything in that then they may be prepared to make the change early and save potters wage for remainder of year. Likewise if they are bringing an overseas coach in he may be available already and they could take option of letting him have remainder of this season to look team and get a head start.
Its all guessing at this stage though.

I just can't believe they'd allow that kind of disruption at this stage in the season. But like you say, it's all a guessing game at the moment.
