1 year of Smith is worth, imo, more than 3 years of Cummins as they stand at present. He could have steadied the ship and pointed the club in the right direction..

I think we possibly need to wait until we see how the coaching team stacks up when it is finalised. We still don't know about a no. 2 nor if there is to be a 'director of rugby' appointed, either of which could address your fears.

The more he talked of his honour, the faster we counted our spoons.: |
|
| Ah Smith might be his No2 thenicon_smile.gif
3 year contract for an unproven coach,to me does not make sense. If he's useless then we will have to honour the 3 years. It should have been 1 year and then re asses imo.If he was any good Leeds would not have let him go,but they put Macca in charge didn't they.We are gonna need a wise head, but if we've NO CASH then his No 2 is gonna be a world beater thats for sure.lol.
Madas.

| Quote: Bullsfab! "He's been making these comments to bulls employees all last year, and he also included Donaldson so it's a little two faced of him to have to try and work with these players that he has said are crap, finished and useless
Sykes has shown bulls to be a very poor outfit, look how well he's come on at Wakefield, and yet potter and cummins didn't rate him!'"
So I assume you are (or were ) a Bulls employee. Or were these "comments" second hand?
The tone of your post suggests you are not too convinced that Potter or Cummins were good coaches and this is based on the fact that Sykes is a clearly better player for Wakefield than he was for us. And don't forget that we did amass more wins than either of this weekends eliminated teams. There's a few examples of players showing better form for us than their previous teams.
As for Donaldson , I doubt anyone would judge him a bad player when terrible injuries have wrecked his last 2 seasons.
PS Wingers as coaches== David Waite was a winger and not too shoddy a coach. Roy Francis achieved a certain claim to be a decent coach .And the greatest coach of the past 25 years has already been mentioned - Wayne Bennett.

IIRC both Ellery & Meninga started their international careers on the wing? And the greatest of them all, John Joyner, started out there.

| Its irrelevant who played where Re making a good coach.Look at Peter Fox.He inspired ordinary guys to play ABOVE themselves, which is what we are gonna need. Can Cummins do the same?I doubt it,but thats my opinion having watched him as a player over many years.
Greatest of them all,John Joiner? You're havin a larf Yes?Hanley was a Rugby League prodigy, end of.

| One way to make a preliminary judgement about a coach/manager, to me, is how they talk when interveiwed on TV.
I find that the best ones give off a clear aura that they are not to be messed with, and don't suffer fools. And they sound very much like they know more about what they are talking about than the questioner - that air of authority. they don't have to rant and rave, it can be a subtle thing. Potter was at the subtle end, but was never caught out by a question, and never bullted an answer. Always spoke with a calm and very clear authority.
Can't think of any top class manager who didn't have these qualities. Can't think of any poor manager who did.
Can probably think of a couple who when fledgling managers, didn't have it, but developed it, but to be honest not many. Seems to me you are either a born leader of men or you're not. If you're not then I don't think you can be a great RL coach.
I hope Franny is. I await, not without some trepidation, his first interviews.

| Theres an interview of FC on the sky sports news app, guess it'll be on the website too. First impressions he does seem to have an air of confidence and authority.
Not upset with the 3 year deal either, with the current circumstances 3 years seems a fair amount of time for a coach to stabilise the team and begin working to the play offs.

Strange that you spend so much time pretending to support such a 'poor outfit', and starting rumours re players that you then fail to substantiate. Maybe it's time you trolled off back to whichever club you really support!.

Yes, Hanley was a winger back in the day. He was my thought too. He won a SL but was he a top coach?

| Quote: Bullseye "Walker had a few good games early on in the season but I thought his second spell was poor - though coming back from injury probably had something to do with it. If he's kept on it'll be for his experience I expect, injuries have taken their toll on him.'"
Interesting, I thought Walker had a pretty good last 6 or seven games for us to be honest. He won't be on mega money and you'll get 110% from the guy guaranteed. I don't expect there will be a lot left to choose from for next year and like you say he adds a bit of experience to what is looking like it could be a pretty youthful pack. Worth a 1 year deal for the right money IMO.

| Looking at the list of OOC players floating around, I don't see a whole bunch that would offer anymore than Chev Walker (providing he can stay fit)

| Judging the players at the end of the season, I think walker, ainscough and platt should be top of the list. All give 100%
