| Quote Roofaldo="Roofaldo"thing is, with regard to the cap, if Orford refuses to return then he's in breach of contract right?
So would that mean we no longer have to pay him? We may still be in a position where we can't use the salary that he would have been paid, however, we wouldn't be paying for a player who won't play.'"
I'm not sure if you declare the contract or the actual payment if it's the payment just stop paying him and sign someone else. Until we've released him he can't be registered with anyone else anyway.

| Without seeing the contracts who knows? And we're unlikely to find out as this sort of thing is never discussed in public, it being a private matter between employer and employee.
I'm sure the club are doing their best to ensure we have the best squad possible for next season. Hopefully that will include a fully committed Matt Orford. If not they'll have to try and get the best deal possible. IMO that means a replacement halfback of top quality, but they don't grow on trees and are pretty much all signed up and under contract.

Are fines built into RL contracts - like football ones? Ie , once fit, he refuses to come and make himself available to play, therefore every 2 weeks we fine him 2 weeks wages but keep hold of his registration so he cannot play for anyone else without compo being agreed?

| The "making a player honour his contract" is a difficult hurdle to jump for me - especially when he's one of the star names / key to the side.
He'll come back very demotivated and negative and that would quickly spread through the dressing room.
Sh!te though it is - if he doesn't want to come back, then there's no point in making him IMO

If he's determined not to come back but isn't being honest with us then we should do what Warrington did with Iestyn! Make him train at 4am and keep him away from the rest of the squad. From what I hear he's a loner anyway so I doubt he'd be wanting to hang around with the rest of the players anyway.
However if we can get a replacement then I agree, we should cut our losses. That's the key. It's easier to be pragmatic when you can cut your losses and not take a massive hit. However if Orford's being dishonest and potentially ruining our chances in 2011 before they've even begun the club should cut his balls off (metaphorically speaking of course).

| In reporting a conversation between Orford + management and Parramatta, it's been made clear Orford cannot join Parra as he has 2 years left of a deal with us.
I don't see the problem.
Would Orford prefer to stay at home? Probably.
Does he realise he has to come back and play for Bradford? Sounds like it to me.

Matt Orford should loosen his collar and cuffs and get crazy with me on the streets of Lidget Green.
