Oops my bad. Hadn't seen t&a article when I posted. As sidlows a free agent now that changes everything.

Think plodders a bit unfair, I'd call him solid without being anything special. More a sibbit type player than a lynch if that makes sense. Will do a job for us and probably won't give as many penalties away as mason would have.

| Simple truth is we need a prop. Sidlow isn't going to be playing for England but he's steady away; we were late coming to the party so we only have the chance of what's left, anyway Sidlow is a decent player who only became available recently so it's much better than might have been.

For anyone needing the story, the T&A piece is www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/s ... dlow_deal/
It seems certain that we will sign Sidlow, and if that article is to be believed, we've been tracking him for some weeks. That seems to suggest we either weren't all that bothered about Mason, or recognised we probably wouldn't get him - given that we've been told all along we were in the market for ONE prop

We were linked with sidlow weeks before rumours about mason being available started. Ongoing situation at Salford has held deal up. Suspect we looked at mason in addition to sidlow rather than instead of, but either weren't interested enough to offer terms or Cas simply offered him a better deal.

Exactly the sort of comments made by Salford fans when we signed sibbit. And he turned out to be a useful squad player

Aye, and Eddie is hinting at it too. And, as we all know:

Your gain? Having to let people go because you are skint and knowing you will only be able to replace them, in time and finance allowing, with inferior players?
Hardly a gain.

Maybe he was allowed to leave in order to save wages, knowing that if the threatened administration would allow him to leave for free anyway? Best to cut as many costs as possible.
Personally I think you are talking a load of nonsense. I would not think that Salford could afford to be choosy.

| ^ Salford will soon be letting go anyone who is attracting interest if they don't soon sort out their financial situation. The Sidlow deal has been in the pipeline for ages, Bradford have waited and waited and played their hand smartly to save a fee/Platt from going the other way. Wouldn't surprise me if a few other players have similar deals to this in place.

Indeed. Not that Stan will see it that way.

It was always rumoured as a swap deal with platt giving up last yr of his deal and going to Salford on less money but a longer deal. Can't see him agreeing to that until Salford get sorted.'" apologies mat I should have referred to the TnA article as my source rather than some wishfull thinking on my part

| reasons for sidlow rather than Mason: 1. better defensively as higher tackle rate and lower missed tackle rate, 2. might not make quite so many meters per drive but offloads and tackle busts high whereas Mason virtually nil 3. half the penalty rate so less metres lost 4. A lot younger. Overall will make us good meters, keep the play going and put in a good defensive stint. subject to injuries...
