I think Dunning will go with Roby, who seems well thought of at the Giants. Lawford will get his chance.

I think the Patton/Lilley partnership will be better having a ball playing full back in Holmes. As much as I liked Kear, the play just died when it got to him. It was a great inside ball from Patton to Holmes for Gills second try. That wouldn't have happened last year.

I think the Patton/Lilley partnership was probably scuppered by a variety of factors last year:

1. Both players being unfit
2. The pack being unfit and often unable to create space for the halfbacks.
3. Lack of a ball playing fullback with any pace to link play.
4. Lack of any decent line running 2nd rows with Scott being injured and Wallace not being picked very often.
5. Lack of a consistent loose forward.
6. General malaise, poor attitude and sterile game plans.

Now I'm not a fan of Patton. He's still looking a bit rotund for my liking and the way he took his bat home last year and the gouging made me think he's not a player anyone would enjoy playing with. However, if the 6 points above are sorted then we might get a different player. Could be a forlorn hope and I would have Lawford primed and ready as soon as he or anyone else drops out of form.

Either way it's nice to have options isn't it

So, Appo is here. He’ll have, at best, 6 days in country and 2x training sessions. Can we risk including him in the squad for York?

I don’t think we need to throw him in against York especially with the options we have in his position.

Unless he blows everyone away in those two sessions, I’d say we could wait until Widnes at home personally.

Nothing major. The club are in discussions with some of the academy players to sign pro deals. Walker has torn his hamstring. An anonymous person donated £10,000 to the academy this week which was announced. Club narrowly avoided a fine for abusive chanting last season.

Just bought my tickets from the Bulls for the South stand behind the posts. Appo was in the shop.

Not surprised. There was some awful stuff from a minority on the popular side on occasion last year. Stewards were in earshot and appeared to ignore it.
