| Terrible decision to appoint full-time referees, without beingin a position to pay them the seriously-decent salary the best of them deserve for that thankless job.
Pay mediocre salaries for a short career, you get mediocre monkeys. Or a Child.

| The standard of officiating has overall probably reached an all time low. Bar one or two whoever gets appointed to your game makes you cringe because you know whats coming.

| Just totally lost the plot at times tonight, how both teams
put up with his decisions is a credit to them. Felt sure Heath
would get sin binned for back chat. got to be the worst ref, ever!
By the way what a dream team of officials, Childs, T V Tony,Roby.
& Robert Hicks on video.

| Agreed, he has had a very poor game but what on earth are those touch judges up to! Can they actually see past the touchline.

| As soon as I saw Child was reffing I knew there would be the usual pathetic onslaught of criticism, so I watched his performance very carefully. I did miss bits of the second half in a constant battle for the remote control to watch the Olympics, so apologies if every supposed bad decision was during that time. From the game I saw there was only one decision that wasn't 50/50 that he missed. He didn't penalise Lulia for his vicious attack to to Taylor's head in the process of him scoring his try. If Taylor had gone down there rather than scoring then Lulia would have been off. Credit to Taylor for making nothing of it. Apart from that I didn't see anything, that in the modern game when literally hundreds of passes are line balls, couldn't have gone either way, consequently alienating half the crowd (& the hundreds of thousands of KR fans stuck on the motorways). As it was he let plenty go but pulled the obvious ones or those when he obviously got a call from his assistants. The current trend to attack refs after virtually every performance is the worst part of games, with posters trying to outdo each other with ludicrous hyperbole. WTF would want to take up the occupation when you are subject moronic abuse every week, on the pitch & on here? I would love it, love it, if any of the ignorant numpties screaming for justice on here were given just 10 minutes to ref a pro game, I would give a fortune to watch it.

| its a sad state of affairs....... in the old days you looked to see who was playing for your team, then who was playing for the opposition before a game. now you just look to see who the ref is to see if you have a chance of winning

My main gripe was his lack of control of the defence line and some very lenient referring of the ruck. With respect viewing via the tv, more often than not the camera is focused on the PTB not whether the defending team are retreating the full ten metres.
Child I presume is paid to be a SL quality referre? If he isn't full time then that might well explain his shortcomings. If I came to re-wire your premises and afterwards made a right mess of it, would you accept me turning around and saying "well there was a lot of wires to get right, you have have a go if you think you can do a better job?".
I would hope Child is more than capable of handling the criticism of his performances otherwise his definitely in the wrong profession. For what it is worth, I actually think he has potential to be a good ref but has been fast tracked too soon.

Black Backgrounds/Zoot.gif Freedom for supporters of the government, only for members of one party - however numerous they may be - is no freedom at all. freedom is always and exclusively for one who thinks differently.

Well said. Interestingly, the only coach I've ever talked to who wouldn't criticise a referee either in public or privately was Ross Strudwick, who happened to be a qualified ref himself. He reckoned the job was difficult enough without having to put up with criticism from people who'd never done it and this was in the part-time era when the game was far slower than it is now.

| I thought he missed a few things at the ptb. But no complaints about the penalties he gave against us. Our tackling in the first half was very careless.

| The word is consistancy thats all we ask for as fans of the game. But this guy can not even keep both teams the 10 meters back at the play of the ball, and keeping the markers square. Also Mr Hicks, how in the world was that first kr try not obstruction is beyond me.

| The 'obstruction' was a fair try for me. I thought so at the game and I still think so after seeing the replay. Jeffries clearly picks the the wrong runner and moves towards him.

| All of you guys moaning about him, yet nobody has pinpointed a specific mistake he made. You can't moan about offside or holding down at the ptb because that's the same for both sides, you just can't see Bradford doing it because you're biased.
The only decision I can think of that I think he made a mistake on was the second short kick-off that Rovers did. Child ended up giving KR a scrum feed for a Bulls knock on, but the replays showed every touch going back towards our own line so it should have been play on.
That's it. Hardly worth some of the abuse he's getting in this thread.

Ok.
Incorrect play the ball that led to the KR try in first half, player never regained his feet.
Incorrect play the ball in 2nd half by Bulls in 2nd half should have been a either a penalty or a knock on.
High tackle on Kearney on 4th tackle in first half, should have been penalised.
Raised knees by Hull KR causing injury to Olbison who never returned. Finally put on report after intervention by video ref.
Forward pass by Hull KR with a 4 on 3 overlap that we thankfully managed to scramble to defend.
Questionable 'back to six call' that led to Salter try, look to me that offload went forward before coming off Gale.
Just a few that spring immediately to mind.

It's going to be even worse when you get the championship refs next season.
