| Bit left field here and maybe slightly off thread.
We went to Biston, which is on Westgate at the bottom of Lumb Lane where the Thai Orchid used to be. It's Iranian and really good value. The startes were 2.50 and the mains were a fiver to seven quid.
Mains were stews or barbecues kebabs with rice or large and very thin nans. All the food was fantastic but not very spicy. As a bit of a change I can thoroughly recommend it.

| Went to Omars last week, for the first time in a couple of years.
Looks like its had a bit of a 'makeovver' and now opens all day.
Food wise it was pretty good - a little lacking in spice perhaps but still pleasant enough food. Nan was as big (and good) as ever. Service was friendly but generally inefficient - got a starter and main course wrong (and there were only 3 of us) and we had to ask for our drinks 3 times.

Do you know why apostrophes are used and where to place them? I'd happily give you a lesson.

You would be well knackered for service with Bernard taking your order.

You do realise a lot of restaurants don't do that, right? Sounds like snobbery!

No I didn't realise that: as almost all but this one I reviewed did have the service to do so, no matter what their status as a culinary establishment. Its simply a good practice of cleanliness and customer appreciation. Costs nothing and shows staff are in tune with the customer's experience of eating there.
I'm curious to know which restaurants you visit that see this simple lack of service as being the norm.
Another point I made was about the slow and inattentive service.
Since you are responding to my post of 27/10/09 I think I can deduce that your expectations of service are not comensurate to mine.

Maybe you're wrong, maybe you're right.. I can't recall seeing it happen though which may just be down to the general amount of courses I eat and/or lack of observation.
Slow service is annoying as hell, I spent 1h 30m in a pub in Manchester a few weeks back waiting for food, in a rather sp pub.
As for the date of your post..

| There's an easy way to avoid food being on the table being a problem.
Try to put it in your mouth rather than all over the table. The staff shouldn't have to clean up afer you just because you can't hit your gob!

Good point and well taken But it does happen and should be cleaned up. Are you saying it never does?

| In all honesty, I wouldn't know if it's normal for staff to clean it up, as if I spilled food on the table, I'd wipe it up myself. Can't say I've ever noticed staff clean it up before the meal is over, but that's not to say it hasn't happened. I don't tend to eat in posh places though

| You haven't had a good curry unless you've spilt a bit of rice on the table and stained an item of clothing!
Mumtaz is over-priced average grub IMO, however the restaurant interior is rather nice with excellent lighting.
I tend not to eat out for curry, most of the best curry I have had has been takeaway curry. My local is fortunately one of the best I've tried from all over the country!

Whilst I agree that our local takeaway is fantastic, I've started getting them delivered from Aakash.. and they haven't disappointed so far!

Is that because you don't have to move from your laptop to order?
I would miss out on reading the Express, whilst munching on a complimentary Poppadom/bhaji/sample of curry and talking to my friendly Pakistani chef about the weather, how busy he is and how my 'football' team is doing. I've tried explaining it's Rugby but we're still having difficulties understanding one another. Not to mention the various drunks piling out of the Crown Hotel, slurring and talking to themselves whilst telling their wives on their phone that they'll be home soon. I'd miss that part of my weekly curry experience.
