Try Lizzie's Pepperpot on Great Horton Road for West Indian grub. Big chunks of Veg in her dishes. Taste's better than Indian food aswell.
Akee and Saltfish man, can't beat it.

Where abouts on GH Road? Walk up and down there every day but I don't recall seeing it.

Sorry, Little Horton Lane.
Next to the fox and pheasant and bookies.
It's grand, it's a little shack. Like being in Jamaica.

Including the drug shootings if it's down LH Lane.
There's a Jamaican place a bit further up and just round the corner on to the ring road that I've always fancied trying. Never been in though.

There's another one that's about 100 yards down the road, but I'm loyal to Lizzy. There's one just behind old Lingards in town aswell that's really good.
If you wan't to trek to Huddersfield aswell, there's an excellent one in the town centre run by a dude called Barrington that was on one of Gary Rhodes' shows.

I see your frozen vegetables and raise you a tin of fruit cocktail, complete with glace cherry, in Darbars (which is now thankfully no longer with us)

| One place that I did find OK about 7 year ago, was Commenwealth on Manor Row. Not sure if it's there anymore though. Just got a keema curry.

| We went to the Karachi this evening, always found the place consistently good but the last couple of times I have been I'd been a little underwhelmed and tonight was the first time I'd been in a while.
The food tonight was really top class, the meat in particular seemed to be of a higher quality than last time, it was the best curry I have had in the city centre for a long time. There seemed to be a couple of new faces in the kitchen, so I'm not sure if there has been an ownership change, but if there has been it has definitely been for the better.

| After a far too long absence, took a mate who was down from Scotland to the Westgate for the usual chicken masala and tandoori rotis. It remians the best in Bradford. The taste never changes, you get a decent amount, and the rotis are to die for.
Mystic Stan, who is something of a curry connoisseur, was gobsmacked.
Plus I have a penchant for their unusual "shrapnel" style onion bhajis.

I tend to only visit the Westgate once a year as I go to a thing around May time in the Rose & Crown up there, which always ends up with a few of us popping into the Westgate. I don't think I've ever eaten in there while sober, but I have always thought it was a really top meal.

| Visit to the Mumtaz 4:30pm yesterday.
Hadn't been there for a few years so wanted to check it out against current opposition and had a dissapointing experience.
Partly my expectations, partly Mumtaz hype, but mostly the quality.
It was not to my expectations of years ago when it was one of the first of the original eateries to go upmarket. Excellent dishes cooked to perfection with impecable service - even if pricey. Acceptable place to take business visitors to the area.
Mumtaz has set their own advertised standards so high -"Word famous", "An experience in eating" that you might expect something special. It isn't. To say that it falls below their avowed standards is an understatement.
As for quality, well thats gone by the wayside in many respects.
There are no complimentary items except water.
Starter for two was a dish I remenber the Mumtaz for. Massala fish - cod fillet marinated and cooked in the Tandoor. Well seasoned and spicy without overpowering the fish, but slightly overcooked and with a dozen bones of 5cm still in. This is just lazy kitchen practice. £8.76
Karahi Chicken in an very flavorsome sauce but the pieces of meat seriously over cooked to negate any of its natural taste. £6.95
Karahi Aloo Gobi was superb, potatoes and cauliflower cooked to perfection. £5.95
The 20cm Rotis were of the "crispy" type and well appreciated at 85p each.
But the service is something that the management needs to address for as I do not want to appear pedantic, it should be judged by the standards that they purport and other restaurants of the same pretensions.
5 minutes sat at the table before a menu was offered in a restaurant that had less than 15 diners then had to ask for water. Menus were folded sheet laminated cardboard that were worn and partly dog-eared.
Our table was not cleaned of minor food debris after the first course.
Half way though paying our bill at the till the operator was taken away by a staff member for a private conversation leaving us waiting.
OK I've revisited Mumtaz and had a bit of a downer from what it used to be. I can move on but can they?

I wouldn't eat any of that stuff but i suppose you're right: it is convenient for the prostitutes afterwards.

| Into the International for lunch this week for a bit of a pilgramage. Still an essentially basement restaurant but well lit and very clean. spacious for the tables and the reception is still very friendly. They do appreciate your patronage.
Complimentary poppadums and dip + iced water within minutes.
Mixed kebabs to start, seek (their spelling) shammi (ditto) and chicken for £2.75. these were as good as expected but not exceptionally memorable and the salad was fresh but somewhat basic and meagre.
Had intended to get a Keema dish from old memories but decided on the chef's special mixed Krahi (ditto) of chicken, lamb, prawns and mushrooms as the last ingredient is a bit unusual. All this in a thick dry sauce. at £7.50. Excellent flavours and the mushrooms did work as they soak up the flavour of the sauce. Prawns of course in these heavy sauces become tasteless
Complimentary options were 1 Naan, 2 Roti, 3 Chapati or rice.
For a change I went for the rice which was fluffy and tender and plain- as it should be when a compliment to a spicy dish.
A bit pricey overall but the portions were huge and I took a bag home which was enough for a decent breakfast the following day.
The place still has a varied clientel, a great ambiance and good grub. Just not sure about value. I'll see better as I continue my pilgramage.
