...unsurprisingly.

I guess this will probably be generally unpopular on here, or at least broadly underwhelming, but I also think its probably the best (least worst)[iavailable [/ioption for the club at the moment.

We'll see.

Probably shows a lack of ambition by the Club or a lack of funds or both! If true not what I'd hoped for.

I hoped it would be Potter, but I think Brian Macca will be a good coach.

I expect McDermott would do a reasonable job and I'll certainly give him a fair shot like any coach or player we sign. However it won't be a particularly popular appointment and it won't be an easy sell for membership cards next year.

I think we all hoped for an inspired appointment that we felt would signal a new start. Guess we'll just have to see what McDermott brings, some discipline hopefully which would be no bad thing.

The Guardian also said a couple of weeks ago that Brian Noble would be our head coach next season.

They change their mind and hope its right.

I'm still hoping for Potter.

League Weekly today says it's McDermott after Potter withdrew his interest.

Its from the Daily Fail so a rather large pinch of salt needs to be applied but they still reckon Potter.... I can't see it myself as much as I'd like it, I think they've just recyled rumour from a few weeks back and they have the order of events well wrong. I suspect McDermott is the only realistic candidate as we are.

League Express report it could still be Potter after an increased offer.

Quote: Maccbull_BigBullyBooaza "That has absolutely no bearing on whether he'll be a good head coach or not what so ever. That's the job of the development coach or what ever they call them these days. Every club in the SUper league know with the exception of that soul less franchise in Wrexham has it's own academy churning out quality players that are filling up their own squads. My friend used to work for harlequins and she says it's the culture within the organisation as a whole from board level down. Brian McDermott has undoubtedly put his heart and a lot of work into it but so has Steve Macnamara at Bradford. I think the club need to appoint the man that will get the best out of the first team squad as a priority over everything else as if the current slump (and I'm talking about the last five years and I'm not holding Macnamara responsible for that) continues there'll be only us lot on here rattling around the Odsal Bowl by the end of next season. In that respect we need the coach to have been at winning clubs from a marketing point of view or season ticket sales could tumble.

That's the priority and the man to do it will be revealed this week.'"

And yet it has every bearing on whether he would be a good coach or otherwise.

It goes beyond stating the obvious to point out that any club would seek to appoint on the basis of maximising the potential of the current squad. It's a given.

My point on the two potentials is quite clear. Both have differing qualities and it's a coin flip as to who would be offered the role. I don't also go with this myth of needing a coach from winning clubs. Tony Smith, Brian McClennan, Nathan Brown, Michael McGuire, Matthew Elliott all candidly demonstrate this continues to be an urban myth. If it's a winning culture you are eluding to, then again, it's a split hair between them both.

For me, McDermott, but again I can't think many fans would be disappointed with either.

Quote: tristram "If true then this is a BIG statement about the financial situation at the club! They have obviously seen the RLs process that allowed them to spin the appointment of Macca (best applicant for the job) and followed suit... Run a competition but without the applicants knowing that the real decider will be the size of the wage packet they expect.'"

Don't believe a word MBBB says. It's 11.15 not 11.00.

If it's McDermott forget the next few years, it just seems to me that the management have NO idea on how to take the club forward, watch thfan base drop next year.
