Emotion? You think I have emotions for Scrutes? Well, that's a first!
Nah, I just watched him play most of the games he played, and so don't need to fall back on the numbers, which would probably prove that George Best was a lazy and Jimmy Greaves couldn't defend. Also he was voted the winner of just about everything, so it's not exactly just me either!
Quote: M@islebugs "Either way it shouldn't be either or. Nas, Carvell, Sidlow, Scrutes, Moore, Evans is bordering on the very handy.'"
I didn't comment on "either - or", though. Of course Moore can do a job, he's just no Scruton.

| For the right price I wouldn't mind seeing Moore signed up for Bradford. Our pack's lack of extra bodies was a definite weakness last year so having an extra body in that position, even if it's only to force the 1st choice players to maintain their form, can only be a good thing

| Starting props: Scruton and Carvell
Bench: Manuokafoa and Sidlow
Moore would have to be back up as I don't think he is better than any of those four.

And if Scruton and Sidlow pick up injuries? Who've we got as back up? Moore would provide squad depth and competition for places.

| I'd take Moore at the right price for cover and potentially fighting it out with Sidlow and Evans for the 4th spot. 6 props is about fight for me and Moore is a experienced head. I do like Sidlow though, he is a real danger close to the line.

| The thing is, in Leeds' statement, it clearly says that Moore has been released because he wants more game time and so that he can move on to get that.
While he would get that at other clubs around the same level as us, I don't think he would at Bradford. I think he'd be in a similar position at Odsal that he was at Headingley, where he gets in the team if one of the "better" props is rested or carrying an injury. Prop is one of a few areas where we have a good primary team, just not so much backup.
Wakefield is a much more likely place for him to end up as they're in desperate need of players, and Mrs. Hetherington is involved there now too, so there are extra reasons for Leeds to be "happy to help", on top of just letting a player do the right thing for his career and helping a struggling club.
I'd definitely take Moore as a squad player, but I don't think that's what he's after judging by the statement.

| A good explanation I read was that Wakey need the money for Aiton & cannot afford a swap/deal involving Moore. By Leeds buying Aiton & releasing Moore it allows Wakey to get him for free.

| So, back on topic, the Henry signing is featured in today's T&A (and on the Bulls website). But it seems like we haven't even applied for his Visa yet!
He doesn't automatically qualify for one because he hasn't played enough first team games in the NRL. We made ourselves look stupid a few seasons ago when we announced the signing of Greg Bird before his Visa was granted - wouldn't it be prudent to hold off announcing this one until it's actually confirmed?

| The way it's worded in the T&A, it appears to say we couldn't apply for the visa until the changeover was ratified so, if true, I guess that's the reason. At least there should be plenty of time to sort out the paperwork and, whilst I agree he doesn't automatically qualify under the 'number of games' principle, the Greg Bird incident was due to his conduct in off-field matters, IIRC.

| the only possibility I can see is maybe the Junior Kiwis match(s) counted along with Brian Smiths recommendation towards what seems to be a discretionary visa. its so glaringly obvious that hes not played the requisite 1st grade matches in the last 2 years for an automatic visa.

| The way I read the article was that Brian Smith's recommendation persuaded the RFL to allow us to make a move for his signature. Perhaps they refuse to register certain overseas players if they don't have enough first grade experience etc.
I can't see how a recommendation from an aussie coach could have any bearing on a visa being granted, discretionary or not. It's a completely separate issue outside of rugby league.

| this is a bit out of date but gives a flavour of what could have been used by the RFL to edit [delrecommend[/del issue a [delvisa[/del
Players - Initial Applications - Discretionary Requirements
RFL will consider applications for players who do not meet the above requirements on an individual discretionary basis. Decisions will be made by a Panel of RFL Senior Executives who will consider written applications from the club concerned. The Panel will give written reasons for their decision. There will be a right of appeal against decisions of the Panel to an independent Panel drawn from the RLPA & Operational Rules Tribunal.
For the avoidance of doubt discretionary requirements are intended to identify players that are of the same standard as those that would qualify under Non-Discretionary Requirements but that for some reason satisfactory to the Panel have failed to achieve the Non-Discretionary Requirements in full.
In order to be considered under the Discretionary Requirements a player must have partially achieved at least one of the Non-Discretionary Requirements (listed at 1-6 above) unless the player comes from another sport. For players from Rugby League the factors to be taken into account when making a discretionary decision will be:
The player’s record in Rugby League including but not limited to:
The player’s achievement against the Initial Applications Non Discretionary Requirements
the player’s junior international representative career
the player’s senior representative career
the player’s record in Super League
the player’s record in the NRL; and
The financial package offered to the player which should show that he is being paid enough to place him in the relevant Super League club’s Top 20 highest paid players (as defined by the Salary Cap Regulations)

| The player himself has to apply for his Visa. The RFL wouldn't allow the club to progress with his Certificate of Sponsorship - it needs a Governing Body Certificate to get that. I understand as soon as the club was given permission to move on this Duffy sorted it out immediately and the Certificate has now been scanned and sent to him in New Zealand. Once he has the Certificate he will be granted a Visa. He had an outstanding record in junior football including captaining the Warriors Under 21's to a Grand Final victory.
