| How was it a dead rubber? Wakey have suspensions and general ? turmoil and could lose.
Lowe's didn't rest players in the genuine dead rubber at the season's end but now rests them in the middle 8s with 4th place still possible and having played OB for 80 minutes when it clearly wasn't working. It's incoherent.
The last half an hour looked like utter disillusionment. Why?

I would be surprised if it stays like that. Also got to remember Wakefield know they already have home advantage. So they're minds are probably on next week. But think they will pull away in the second half.
Still maintain Lowes was 100% right in resting the squad yesterday. The efforts of some of those yesterday is what i question.

Well Lowes has openly said that he wasn't interested in where the game is played so in his eyes it was dead rubber. Personally I'd have preferred a home time rather than away but I don't really believe it was likely we'd finish above Wakey.
We'll never know seen as though the Wakefield players knew yesterday that they didn't need the result today at Sheffield.

| Plus, with us losing Wakefield don't need to win today so can put out a B side themselves meaning their best players are rested and waiting for us next week

| Poor by Lowes for me, he put no pressure on Wakey today, if you'd have won yesterday it still force Wakey to turn up and expend more effort. Wakey could have put out their under 12's today because of Lowes' bad decision.
His thinking on this is most definitely flawed, yes you could have put your full team out, still lost and picked up injuries, but you could have won, got home advantage and more money in your coffers.

| Don't think anyone knows how the money side is worked out for this match.
No championship teams have had money from Sky even when on tv, so I guess Wakey will take all that. Maybe it will be like a league game and we'll get a fixed amount [plus ten% of our ticket sales] and Wakey will get the rest. Could be like a cup game or maybe like a final [which it, sort of, is] and Wakey get expenses and we both get a fixed percentage along with the RFL?
Maybe the RFL are hoping to use the cash to pay off Tanker's pie 'n' pasty bill at Greggs?

Lowes was disrespectful to Sheffield, they pulled it out the bag (wakey look to have had a pretty much full team out- www.skysports.com/rugby-league/l ... 4166/teams) and its cost Bulls home advantage in their biggest game in a decade.

| Well Wakefield have lost 24-10.and Leigh have been hammered by Widnes. I suspect you could have had pretty good odds if you had made an accurate prediction of the final placings.
Turning to next week , let's assume the 9 players missing yesterday return to the squad. Add Clough, Gaskell Sjieka , Clare ( or Caro) Ryan and Pitts. Which leaves 2 to complete the 17. Personally I would choose Fleming and Crossley.
Looking at the side Wakefield put out against Sheffield I think we have a decent chance. The only obvious improvements for them would be to play the 2 Smiths and Locke.

| Squeaky bum time for Green, Ferres and, in particular, Lowes. We simply have to win next week or a very long period in the wilderness beckons. That ought to be motivation enough except that if Wakefield go down their prospects are even worse. The future of rugby league in two West Yorkshire cities is on the line.

Lowes job is to prepare his team for the biggest game of the year next week. He took the view that resting up some players who have had a long campaign and were perhaps carrying knocks was more advantageous than 'putting pressure on Wakefield'. I'm sure he expected more from the players he picked and wasn't looking to lose the game even if it wasn't really our main focus.
What is important now is seeing whether Lowes can prepare the players so they're in the right frame of mind for the big match.
