Ah yes, that bit.
To be fair, I think it was GW who was more concerned about the private company bit, although I tend to agree with him really.
As you say though, a sports club is more than that.
With that in mind, I cant wait for a similar scheme to be announced for the town of Keighley and the Cougars. The precedent being said and all that.

I remeber similar comments from people in Dewsbury and batley when the Kirklees (soon to be McAlpine and then Galpharm) Stadium plans were announced. That has not just brought extra income Kirklees' way but also given the area a sense of pride. So it shouldn't IMO be viewed a load of public cash being used to help out a private company. Leaving all the other parts of the project to one side of course.
I know given the previous false dawns that I shouldn't but I can't help feeling excited about this. I suppose we'll find out in a few months as the diggers will have to be in early next year.

Why not? - got the Cougars, KRUFC, cricket, bowls, the existing leisure centre across the road, as well a big population centre for the minority community you'd be hoping to integrate. OSV got off the ground because the Bulls did the legwork AFAIK. Has anyone in Keighley ever scoped this out. How much would KRUFC get for Uttley?

I think the nearest we've come is a reference to a new stadium in the "airedale masterplan" document.
The rugby league site combined with the cricket and bowls area is of course ideal when you take into account the vicinity of victoria hall/the leisure centre and the trunk road.
It'll never happen though, there isn't the drive though. 35 years of being in BDMC has knocked that out of people.
Plus there's the issue of the freehold on Cougar Park.
I doubt the Rugby Union club would be interested personally. I think they are happy with what they do, though you might be better informed on that front.

| Quote: Cookie "That's how I remember it. Tescos got planning permission from Bradford Council, but Morrissons appealed to the Sec of State and then the scheme got referred. It was at this stage that Tescos withdrew.
From what I understand of this new scheme, it hasn't got to planning permission stage as yet.'"
*bangs head on laptop*
Morrison appealed against planning permission with no substantial grounds. It was Yorkshire Co-operative ( who owned Sunwin House ) and Asda St James whose planning appeals were significantly upheld by the Secreatry of State not Morrison's.
Anyway, yes Asim is correct - that scheme had funding and planning permission granted by the Local Authority - this one has neither yet !!

| I would estimate we are 5 years off completion IF there are no consultants on board, no planning permissions, no designs, no tenders & no contractors.

Council leaders saying it will be delivered by 2012 are naiive to the point of stupidity, if what I said is accurate.

| Why does the fact there is no 'work begins on such and such' date type statement worry me?
It seems a bit vague tbh.

| Whilst this looks great news for Bradford there is a lot of funding streams to sort out to hit that 75,000,000 not sure if the time frames are doable in the current climate.
Good luck

Thanks for the details. I'd totally forgotten about the Co-op & Asda involvement.

| Great news for us I just hope this time around everything goes right this time, it will be nice to be in a ground without getting drenched when it rains. I presume we will be playing at Valley Parade again ?
