| Quote bullsonfire="bullsonfire"Why has Fielden been so gash at Wigan? Because he was the best prop in the competition when we sold him. Weight of expectation? Laziness?'"
Because he's had a shocking pack around him.
The only bad games that spring to mind this year are when he's been the only experienced prop on the pitch. Against Wire there was him and Prescott as our only regular props, and as such they knew they could throw everything at him as he would have to do 60-70 minutes and do everything himself.
I don't want Fielden to leave, he's carried our pack since he arrived and I want to see him with Lima and Coley supporting him again next year.

| Phelps would be a waste of a quota spot imo.

| im a fan of phelps....think it was last year when i saw him play a few times on sky and was suprised to see how well he played.....shame we dont have another quota spot free as he would be worth it in my opinion! (the quota spot left by menzies MUST be used to get a half back...unless leon is coming back

Phelps would be a far, far better signing than either Walker or Ainscough.
You could play him at fullback or 6 and he'd go well in either position. Had it not been for horrific luck with injuries this year, I'm fairly certain he'd still be in Wigan's 1st 13 and in our plans for next year.

But Ainscough/Walker are not really a fair comparison. My understanding is that Phelps would be a quota player. He wouldn't IMO offer enough of an improvement to our side to use a valuable spot on him.
I understand we have may well have identified a player to take our remaining quota spot, so I don't see much mileage in 'Phelps to Bulls' rumours.

Not the point is it? He may be a better player, but if he takes a quota spot, that takes his value down quite a bit in itself. Neither Walker or Ainscough count on the quota, meaning their value is increased.
We'd all love to be able to sign as many quality players as we want, but quota rules are in place to stop that when it comes to foreign players. Salary cap rules are supposed to be too, but there seems to be a couple of clubs who are somehow managing to ignore those....
I agree Phelps is a good player and worth signing, but the quota thing is a big problem.

| Maybe the "Spell" reference was a cry for help? Phelps will know that we have / had a spot available and maybe pushing himself in the shop window?

| Maybe now that our quota spots are all filled, then that's making the signing of Leon Pryce even more likely .
With Ah Van and Ainscough now on board I can see both of Sheriffe & Reardon leaving.
Kearney
Ah Van/Finigan
Platt/Wardle
Walker/Sykes
Ainscough/Halley
..........
Lynch/Kopzcak
L'Estrange/Wagga
Scruton/Hall/Dowes?
Elima?/Hall
Whitehead/Addy/Olbison
Langley/Donaldson
