He did not say that all Brexiteers are rascists but it's a pretty sure bet that all rascists are Brexiteers.

| And 17.3 million people. About a 1/4 of the population. How is that a majority? Still makes me furious.

Faux hysteria noted. FA has already corrected your post. What I would say is that every leave person I heard on the radio around Brexit time spoke about their fear of immigration, foreigners taking proud Brit's jobs/houses/hospital beds, & taking back control of laws from foreigners. IMO that is a classic definition of xenophobia. I know a number of people who voted Brexit, some of them I would have to class as friends, but know they are not racist, though they still exhibit an illogical fear of foreign law makers. If that is too much for your obvious sensitive disposition I apologise.
What you will see happen, & is happening, is all those xenophobes & racists will move on to the next faux enemy when we have left Europe & kicked all the forriners out. That will be the unemployed, homeless, long-term ill, prisoners, poor etc. There is a poem written by German priest Martin Niemöller which I suggest you look up.

37% of the total electorate. See earlier
I'm certain the NHS lie caused a swing of 2-3%. That was the final piece of the jigsaw to deliver a Brexit vote.
And a lie of that magnitude was needed to get it. And for a Brexit politician, the end justifies the means because once they'd won, the right wing media would gloss over the lie that delivered Brexit and continue to smear everyone that didn't toe the line.

Eh?
Have a word with yourself.
Tigertot is easily one of (if not THE) most fair minded and intelligent poster I have ever had the fortune to read, on any message board, ever.
The problem nowadays is that people are not allowed to have an opinion because of comments like yours who try to censor anything they disagree with.
I would suggest if you cannot abide by a differing opinion to yours then a message board is not the best place for you to be.

| But what about the lie of the punishment budget threatened by George Osbourne? How many did that put off voting for Brexit? Lets be honest the campaigns were poorly run by both.
Also i don't get why people keep bringing up the population percentage of the vote. Those who didn't vote, their opinion is completely irrelvant. I haven't gone back in history to check the full stats, but how many majority governments would we genuinely have had if you took the percentage of the population rather than the elecotrate. 15 million people didn't vote the last GE. In fact the biggest majority is the none voters! The referendum was the biggest turnout ever for a british election/referendum i believe.

| Quote: Ferocious Aardvark "I am sure that the combination of dumbing down and the widespread and sad tendency for people to (a) read nothing longer than a sentence (b) take an interest in little of any importance and (c) the rise in an obsession with trivia has made it very easy for the purveyors of fake news to influence millions. So many on social media nowadays are just hopelessly uninformed and as many are also as gullible as Bempton cliffs, we have the rise to power of the idiot, and the nasty bigmouth.
It's not so much the lies are bigger, their media reach is, as is the expanding potential constituency of morons prepared to swallow them.'"
That is a very good point about about dumbing down for those who can only take in small, and simple points. Unfortunately, we see it in education now just so the results stay high. The fake news and rise of social media is a real problem. I work in ICT / computing and see the bad side of it every day and see how people say things behind a keyboard that they would not say face to face with a real person. It will only get worse as it depends on people showing restraint - which won't happen.
The reason I was annoyed at the post was I totally dislike people being grouped together (branded) because of a certain reason whether that being their colour, size, language or even political ideology. They could be a black, gay, Tory, vegan with ginger hair and wear glasses and be a really good person. We should not lump lots of people you do not know into one big group simply because they ticked a certain box. It is wrong to do that as people are different. Judge someone how you find them and not on how they look and the world would be better. We just need to be careful which words are used when describing people you don't know. My next door neighbour is a proper racist. He hates foreigners purely because of skin colour and where they are from. I have had heated discussions with him as I believe he is wrong and should get to know people. He voted to remain as his grandson works in France and his sister lives in Spain. It is more complicated than hating foreigners or not.
All I would say is keep the discussions civil and accept peoples differing opinions. It is good that we live in a democracy and have the chance to vote openly but it is also important that results are accepted and people then get on with each other and make things work.

| What saddens me is that there is an enduring poltical need for a right wing protest party pandering to the petty and baseless fears of the working classes. The BNP rose to provide a voice for the white working classes who mistakenly thought they'd get one by voting in that way. The BNP were always going to be screwed when UKIP gained prominence as people tripped over themselves to join a party that was perceived to be slightly less toxic. Essentially UKIP is the BNP in lipstick. How the working man and woman can vote for a party that has stated it believes in eroding their working rights, statutory holiday, maternity pay etc simply defies belief. I fell out with the working classes last June. They are so petulant in their desire to strike a blow against a faux establishment that they cheerfully vote to directly harm themselves. It truly sickens me.

37%, yes. Which is, in a sense, fair enough for a new government in a multi party election, remembering that a government can be voted out in five (or fewer) years. Where I think it is wrong is in allowing such a major constitutional change as our EU membership to be decided by such a wafer thin majority - and worse, I'd guess that when we're out, we'll be out for a generation with May going on about it being "the settled will of the people". One thing is true though, in a general election a 52% to 48% split between two parties would have left a totally split government with no chance of getting any legislation through - and a certain second election fairly quickly afterwards.

| If the Tories manage to focus this entire election on Brexit, then we're stuffed.
If their record on NHS & social care and to a lesser extent education can get enough coverage, then it could get uncomfortable for them.
The NHS is imploding daily. Politicians are very aware that the party which the public [iperceive[/i to have broken the NHS will be unelectable for a generation. Just need to make enough mud stick to the Teflon Tories.

| Quote: Pumpetypump "This isn’t like a normal general election because the result is already known in my opinion, and it represents a stepping stone to something else. The conservatives will win and with an increased majority. What this election (and the council one before it) is, is one of many adjustments taking place to reflect the civil war caused by the referendum. In itself the election will not serve to change the partisan nature of society in the slightest but I think it is a necessary step.
The LDs will not return to Cleggmania days instantly, but as the unashamedly and only UK wide voice of “the 48%” and the only centre ground in UK politics they will gain seats, and more importantly continue to give a voice to a vast swathe of the population who feel ignored or even vilified (Daily Mail headlines of example).
The election will also help develop a meaningful opposition to fill in the vacuum caused by the present lack of one. On June 9th Corbyn will either resign enabling the Party to pursue a centre-left agenda, or if he refuses, the party formally fractures with MPs choosing to form a centre-left party, or to join with the LDs. Either way, the strength of the moderate political centre will increase, from the level it is at now.
The demographics of EU support suggest that time is on the side of the political liberal or centre ground. I have the perhaps optimistic aspiration that by the time I’m 50 in 10 years time, we will have re-joined the EU. By then some of the silvertops will have buggered off to the little-England in the sky, enabling young people to pursue a less misty-eyed bat crazy agenda.'"
I'm a silvertop and when I bugger off I hope we will have really left that corrupt organisation called EU. How we can still be in something that has'nt been audited for years I'll never understand. I'm old enough to remember how we had to destroy umpteen orchards to be allowed in and don't start me on the destroyed Fishing industry. Being forty you would'nt know how we managed before, and don't worry about trade the EU lorries will still be arriving containing about 80% more than they take back and quite possibly be delivering a few illegals.
