his critics are too busy booing him to see anything good he does. How you can boo a player every time he touches the ball is beyond me icon_rolleyes.gif

Quote: Duckman "I agree, especially considering how thin the squad is in the backs. We need players in not going out whatever your thoughts on Platt. And Platt had more good moments and games than bad this year IMHO (not perfect by any stretch and he had some shocking moments and games, but nothing equal to the stick he gets), and he was a more than a useful Centre in the last few weeks with hardly any errors but his critics wont want to see that.'"

...is the right answer.

IMHO too, at least.

I thought Platt played well in the centres, he's got strength and his defense is better than Sykes. I think he has the capability to go well in that position, particularly as he's not continually under the pressure of the high ball, he also offers quite a bit in attack and made some good runs in the last few matches. I'd be sorry to see him go.

I think Platt is a far better centre than FB. He seems to have confidence issues which are not helped by the boos everytime he gets near the ball nor the pressure of the spot light being FB brings. Yes he's had bad moments this year. But you can count the Bradford players who've not had bad moments this year on the fingers of a blind butcher's hand. It's just that his brainfarts at FB have painted a large bullseye on his back and made him an easy scape goat

Given how paper thin our backs are looking for 2010 having him leave makes no sense unless we've got someone better lined up.

Platt was the scapegoat for many people last season and I think it is about time that he was given a bit more respect than has been afforded to him since the start of last season.

It seems to me that he has responded well to being dropped form the side and has come back a stronger and more consistent player too, when he could easily have taken his bat home and went in the huff. It is fair to say that Platt will never be a world beater but at this time, the club needs people who are willing to fight hard for the cause rather than just being there for the wages and nothing else.

He would certainly be in my team before a few others that we still have at the club at the moment and, with the right support, Platt could be a good asset to the side rather than the public enemy number one that he has often be portrayed as.

Fair enough, I have slagged him off in the past but he is beginning to prove me wrong and I assume that I am not alone in this.

As has been mentioned, he can cover a number of positions and we would be better off with him than without him at the moment and I wish him all the best for 2010. At least we know that he will give his all for the side.

Yep, fair assesment that. He seems a confidence player to me and hes clearly been playing with more confidence and therefore showing more ability when in the than exposed at the back.

A couple of games last season some of our own "fans" booed him whilst he was stood on the touchline waiting to come on!! Unreal.

I agree with the comments about Platt and his decent form at centre.

Quite frankly, looking at the current squad, unless there is a centre signing coming before next season, Platt would be my first choice right centre right now.

there was a large drunk group standing behind me at most games who booed him every time he touched the ball and then gave him a further boo if he didnt make a mistake. Now wheres the logic in that!

mind you the same group were also chanting superhands whenever langley touched ball and took great delight if he knocked on icon_rolleyes.gif

When Platt's in the centres he doesn't have the same level of decision making as at f/b which were the cause of most of the justifiable criticism sent his way. Physically he's strong, pretty quick (without having great acceleration), has decent stamina and looks to put in the effort. He's had 2 bad years sandwiched between a flying start and a good run at the end of this season and if he can provide more consistency without the very poor decisions, which to be fair haven't been as evident in the later part of this year, he should be an asset.

There's others i'd like to see before Platt, and he does have the potential to be a good player, but he is very much a confidence player.

I know which group you mean and i seem to remember that a member on this forum is one of them? Is it Cieranblonde? The only reason I know is that I seem to remember a mention of the superhands thing.

They were sat behind me at Hudds away and i was bemused. If you watch the highlights on the Super League site you'll notice they sit just infront of the camera too.

I took it more as an ironic shout as "Langley never passes the ball" than anything to do with knocking on tho...

I think its worth giving Platt an extended run at Centre. He seems to thrive on confidence, and giving him the Number 3 shirt would be a good way of signalling that the coaching team has confidence in him

An added bonus would be that if Halley gets injured, there is always the option of him moving back to FB, even mid game. Yes, I know, not his ideal position, but it is at least an option if needed

Injuries come along - we need plenty of squad members, and I think Platt would add something

i'd agree with that apart from giving him the 3 shirt. if we sign a then i'd expect them to get the shirt. if we dont then I'd prefer neither sykes or platt to have the 3 shirt and the perceived advantage in the pecking order. give them both numbers in the high teens and play whichever one of those two and crookes is in better form, maybe giving the 3 to crookes as motivation, as he's probably a longer term solution to one of the berths.
