The thread of mathmetical attainment to top 8 has been intesting.. not riveting...but somewhat of a comment on our present position in the SL pecking order.
I really would like some good news from the club that there are reasons to believe that we would not be in this same position next year

Cats beating hull was a blow. We seem dependent on Wakey & Hull (apart from when they play us).

No they haven't. We could have done with Hull beating Catalans as Hull weren't a threat, as detailed further back in the thread by af (i think).

So...

I think it probably will be academic after today.

But if we were to win all our games (which I appreciate isn't realistic in itself), I think it's only realistic that we can overtake Wire and Quins (which isn't enough). I can't see Cas, Wakey or Catalans losing all 3 of their games.

This has always been one of those mildly interesting but largely hypothetical "what if" subjects.

I'm not sure which is more unlikely, Bulls winning our remaining matches or the other results going our way.

I would say probably yes. We could do with them beating Catalans and Quins, and even winning one of those games, makes today's game against Celtic completely irrelevant.

We can't possibly catch Wakefield and Catalans, as they both only need 1 win to be clear of us and they play each other.

Not that it concerns us, but Saints are only doing marginally better at Hull KR than Celtic are doing at Wakey.

Yeah we need Wakey to smash everyone they play from now on.
