Absolutely, can see him going away on a mutual termination at the end of year only to bit us on the in a couple of years time. Can't imagine the guy is very happy here and I don't blame him if he isn't.

Aye, and Eddie is hinting at it too. And, as we all know:

Makes no sense though. I critisized Briggs but cant disagree his performances with Jefferies demands a playing spot. Creates trouble and adds a unorthadox flare with ball in hand.

| But you have to have the ball in hand first of all. if you have a saints prop running at you with the ball, you have to tackle them! So while I agree generally with the pro Brigss comments and his kicking would be useful, the idea we are going to outsaint the Saints is a bit misguided, better to keep Briggs for another game where his strengths are more suitable rather than set him up as a target for every Saint to run at.

| Herbert is better in defence, all briggs has on herbert is speed..........
and IMO neither of them have a right good kicking game, fed up of watching them BOTH kick the ball down the oppositions throat
and all that being said i would much rather have a defensive player agaisnt a team like st.helens !!!

| Utterly ridiculous. As Aaron has said, why an overrated average Aussie HB is preffered to Briggs is totally mind boggling.

Herbert set up two of our tries, and his positional kicks throughout the game were good with some great ones thrown in,
For me briggs hasnt yet stepped up to the plate like Royston has, and personally i think its too early for him

| agreed Pulsations, no point blowing what confidence he has by letting Saints smash him to bits. they can read the stats too. Horses for courses, thats why you have a squad with players that bring different qualities to the game. Theres a few games I would expect him to play, but neither Herbert nor Briggs will play all matches even if injury free.

| To be honest, I can't see why people are getting quite so wound up over this. Both fairly average halfbacks IMO who have different strengths and weaknesses. In the long term, we need to be looking at better if we're serious about aiming for top 4 finishes.
Potter will have devised a gameplan and will pick the players he believes are suited to that plan.

| i must have missed the games where briggs became a dead cert and i think potter is doing is job in protecting him defensively. If briggs plays and has another defensive shocker he would have to be dropped again and this would be even more damaging to his confidence.
I believe that briggs is a long term option, but he has missed the MOST important aspect for any young, slight player making the step up- PRE SEASON. if we come out of this year with briggs bigger and knowing the plays with some game experience, it sets us up well with a young half back who could have a bright future. If we throw him to the wolves, we could jeopordise this future.
One final note, im pretty sure lomax and gaskill were drip fed initially until they proved they had the all round game to handle the step up and this was as a result of injuries.

theres a lot of sense in that post. I'd prefer to play briggs but can see why potter might opt for herbert for this game. lets not forget herbert's only had one game with jeffries. its a bit harsh to dismiss partnership on back of one game. think we'll see both herbert and briggs used in remainder of season depending on strengths of the opposition.
