| Quote: Shaggoth "My car is utterly, utterly hopeless in the snow for reasons I cannot fathom. I have had to leave my car in a nearby street because it can't get up mine whereas every sodding neighbour comes and goes with ease.
If anyone knows a (genuine) reason why a Skoda Fabia Estate has all the grip of a soapy hand on a glass paperweight I'd be fascinated to know.
So yeah I'm not at work but I did build thishttps://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs160.snc3/18758_271218755827_692660827_4551271_5835581_n.jpg" >'"
One of the main reasons for modern cars slipping about is the the fact that tyres tend to be much wider than used to be the case. Without the snow this would, of course, give more grip but the extra width just spreads the weight of the car and the tyres just don`t have enough weight to cut through the snow as a narrower one would.

That's spot on yeah. That's also why my Astra has far more trouble getting out of my estate in snow than my old Fiesta used to. This is possibly the only time I actually miss that car....

I believe if its not written into your contract they are not allowed to do that without your agreement, similarly docking your pay could also be illegal as well.
There are very few legal ways an employer can dock your pay or enforce days off in lieu, so if your collegues can say they made an effort to get in and/or or went by local advice on the news, they can argue the point

You can't have your pay docked for not turning up to work? That seems a little unfair on the employer.

Or maybe it would be a little unfair on the employee if they want to make the effort but have to take in to consideration child care, given half the schools are shut, or can't get off their estate (as is my case) because the council haven't filled the yellow boxes and their car won't get up the incline leading to the main road!
TBH I think it's very encouraging that a lot of people take the opportunity to do other things than work, and I also think it's useful to be reminded that most of the 'work' we do can wait, be done at home or otherwise not be done at all. The less people clogging up the roads to sell people stuff they don't need or attend ridiculous management seminars, bureaucratic meetings etc the more space there is for the emergency services and staff involved in maintaining vital infrastructure. Instead of being in Bradford I managed to have a teleconference with people that would otherwise have all been traveling in from elsewhere, I hope we do a lot more of it.

That basically means all the people cheesed off at not receiving containers yesterday are even more cheesed off becasue they've had non today and now I'm rebooking tomorrows deliveries.'"
Yes, all well and good, but how is Freightliner Gdansk managing to keep up deliveries of Vodka to the peripheries, that's what I want to know.

Wish more people would do this, it's easier and cheaper than going to meetings a lot of the time.

| I get really annoyed with impatient motorists in the snow.
There was one this morning. I was trying to cross the road and make it through the deep snow and the piled frozen slush at the side of the road and the dick in the 4WD was waving me across the road angrily like I wasn't going fast enough for him.
Of course the wakner was probably late for work as was I but at least he was sat in his nice warm car being late rather than being shin deep in cold snow being late!!
Please have more patience with us poor pedestrians!!

Gdansk is Poland's largest seaport rlhttps://www.portgdansk.pl/enrl.
I don't know if Freightliner operate from Gdansk but if they do I bet they're shut (or at least not accepting empties) as well.
It's got really sad nowadays in that everytime I'm watching the news and the weather forecasters predict heavy snow or even worse and much more common high winds my heart sinks and I lay in bed thinking about failed deliveries. I hate snow!!!!

Pedestrians used to use footpaths, now as it is accepted practice that cars can park on them without fear of prosecution, where are we supposed to walk?

It might help if they spread the stuff rather than leave six inch thick piles of it at sporadic intervals.
