I was quite surprised how easy it was to get in this morning to be honest. It took a couple of hours instead of thirty minutes, but traffic was moving from Stanningley and down Leeds Road.
When it first snowed just before Christmas I was outside having a fag and watching some African post grads who'd obviously never seen the stuff before. Always a pleasure to see grown ups turn into giddy little kids. I've just been out for a fag and seen the same people bitching like hell about the weather.

| The main reason we don't cope as well is because the snow is rarely as heavy and persistent for weeks not days, also the freezing type of cold is also not so prevalent. Going back to the 50's & 60's snow and very cold weather was part of the Winter scene and as such folk just got on with it, certain villages around the Country would get cut off for weeks on end.

Very true. We also have the `blame` culture, no win no fee sharks who create a culture of fear around all the authorities which result in schools being closed at the first snowflake" in case someone slips and get hurt". In all honesty, I went to school during the fifties and early sixties when snow was much much heavier and longer lasting than nowadays and can`t remember EVER having school cancelled due to the weather.

| I set off from Queensbury at 7:15am this morning and got to L$$ds city centre at 8:15am. All roads were fine until I hit the M621 which was starting to clog up.
Stayed at work until 10am and when the second person (also the boss) made it to the office, he said he was leaving at lunch to get back to York and it had taken him 2 hours to get in.
The wife then rang me to say Queensbury was starting to get quite bad so off home I popped.
Unfortunately I can work from home so no real gain for me, other than I now avoid the craziness later if it comes down again

| I've made it in I just left earlier. Working in Logistics I wish I'd not bothered as I am now in a world of hurt with drivers not able to make deliveries and those that can are turning up to warehouses that haven't opened due to staff not being able to get in.

| I live in Brighouse but work in Manchester. Took me 3 and a half hours to get to Junction 18 on the M62 this morning, and then had to turn around (road was dead all the way home) because it was crawling on the M60 too. So officially working from home today.
Couldn't get the car up the road either, was sliding all over the place.

| No problems at all getting in this morning, took no longer than usual. Funny how those of us who live in the south are normally derided by north of England dwellers about our attitude to 'heavy' snow
Tomorrow might be a different matter

Er...it occurs to me that this is not entirely consistent with the macarooned-out MBBB of message-board legend...?

| I had no problems either but the North West of the country has it pretty bad.
We're not out of the woods yet either, lots more freezing temperatures for the next week at least.

| Wilsden to Ilkley via Harden Moor, Keighley, Silsden and Addingham. Took me 70 mins, of which a good chunk was crawling down into Keighley at 1mph behind a long stream, and into Ilkley on the flat, cleared road behind the 5mph scared shîtless merchants. Harden Moor and Silsden-Addingham would have been stupid if not impossible without 4WD though. Massive queue towards Addingham from Ilkley tghe other way because stuff getting stuck (or too scared to continue) at the start of the bypass. Got in just after 8...but just come back since hardly anyone else made it. All the main roads and bus routes clear, but Harden Moor still uncleared and cars unable to get up the hill so I detoured thru Bingley. Just been digging my road out now...oh joy.

The damage up here was because (as usual) it coincided with the rush hour, and the gritter/ploughs were stuck behind the queues.
