| Quote Bullseye="Bullseye"Well given that we never really saw the best of McNally I don't think we'll see that.
A fully fit McNally would've been first choice but he was never fully fit - and he might not ever be as good as he was a few years back. Pickersgill will improve as he's only young. Hitchcox has played fullback a lot in the past and could be a good choice there too.
We have options - it's not the end of the world.'"
Problem is tho our wings now look considerably weaker when you move Hitchcox there

They do if you move him.
There was nothing to choose between Pickersgill and McNally last season. A fit McNally would've been an upgrade but there were no guarantees we were getting that.
I think Pickersgill has potential, as does Alix Stephenson who may get the odd game too.

See for me that’s throwing 2 kids in with very little experience between them... every time I see pickers opposition run over the top of him we need hardened experience for our first season especially imo

I've heard Richie Mathers is available
I do agree with Pyrah though. In all seriousness, if McNally does go back to Leigh (and fair play if his misses is ill). I hope we do everything we can to get Moss back here. His link up play with Chisholm was brilliant and would give us so much more strike power in the back line. Can defuse kicks and create chances from nothing too. Pickersgill still needs a bit of experience in front of him. Don't forget the Championship is a different kettle of fish than League 1.

| How does Pickersgill get experience if you don't give him a chance? He's got a lot to learn but I think he's earned his chance before we start bringing anyone else in.

Only way their going to get that experience is by being played in first team. We've always got option to drop hitchcox back to FB for games against tougher opposition where experience is needed. And that's assuming we don't bring someone else in as I think McNally was one of higher earners so we now presumably have some funds available for a replacement. Would have thought delay announcing is whilst we try to line someone up.

| I'd love Moss back. However I'd be surprised if it happened. As Bullseye said, how does Pickersgill get experience without playing, and this is the perfect season for him to gain that.

Throwing him in the deepend no.... though I agree with rotation he deserves a fedeserves a few chances but making him first choice would be a massive mistake

We obviously rate him differently. While he's got deficiencies in his game I don't think he's a massive weakness in the side and for me the fullback spot is his to lose. If he has a run of bad games then Hitchcox comes in there and we bring in Evans, DFG or Grant on the wing.
IMO Pickersgill's strengths are his passing and coming into the line. His weaknesses are his one on one defence and his speed. As he learns to read the game and gain experience the speed deficiency will be less of a problem. The one on one defence can improve with training too. If he doesn't improve only then bring someone else in.
We have an academy to nurture the future of the team. Not all players will come in and make an immediate impact so it's about bringing them on. Pickersgill won most improved player last year so deserves his chance.

Obviously he does ave strengths but fb isn’t his his natural position my issue is if he struggled one on one defensively in league 1 then he will be a disaster against the big hitters in this league
