The player I'm looking forward to most for next year is Carvell.

IMHO ever since we lost Oli Elima from our pack we've lacked a bit of, for lack of a better word, mongrel. Someone who's going to come in and knock a couple of opposition heads together when either their pack is on top or things get nasty. It pains me to say it, but Ryan Bailey is really, really good at it, and I think we've missed it. It doesn't have to be someone dirty, just someone who can step up and bully the opposition. I reckon GC will give us this.

I agree. Even nowadays a pack needs some nastiness. The days of Fairbank and Skerrett are long gone (unfortunately!) but we do lack an animal, even one by today's standards.

That will be the days when shouts of "Kelvin's going to get you" rang round Odsal and opposing players would be well and truely "concreted" - afraid in the modern game a mild dissing tends to be as far as it goes - or a good twitter rant once the opponents are long gone.

A good tactic I thought, considering the weather. It was never gonna be a flashy game in those conditions, so having more power and fresh props up the middle was gonna be key. My money's on them for the trophy.

Karl is one of my favourite players of all time and I would say every pack needs someone like him.Hard as nails and never took a backward step.
One of the Wigan forwards that impressed me last night was Ben Flower who ran straight and hard.I think he has a future.

My point is we only have 4 in the squad, Wigan can put 6 on the park. I agree they look a good thing.

We’ve got 4 bona fide props plus Evans for next year by the sound of it. If we’d landed Kaufusi I’d have been happier. When we last got into the 8 in 2012 (before points deduction) we had 5 bona fide props and back up from Joseph plus Elima and Langley could play there too (8 in all).

I still think we’re a bit short of depth in the pack. Hopefully the talk from Whitcut about 30 players in the squad won’t mean 30 players with 10 being under 19s. We need some experienced power up front and some pace in the centres. Injuries can break a season as we’ve seen this year.
