Quote: Bulliac "I'm not shocked to hear that it came from the directors - I've never seen a game like that in all my life, and the weak, bloody awful referee ought to have curled up in shame and resigned his commission at the end of it. The fact that the RFL backed that man sums them up too, imo.
Not surprised the directors thought twice about admitting it though, I suspect they would have been banned and fined by the RFL, if they had. Thugby league had nothing on that day, an utter disgrace to the game.'"
I was there that day too, horrible weak refereeing and a Rovers team determined to give it to a young Northern team. I remember taking to Phil Sanderson who played that day, he said Peter Fox told them to come off if there was any more mischief.
I also remember being drawn against Rovers at Odsal in the Yorkshire Cup a few months later, and another young team beat a very experienced Rovers team 15 14 I think, and Sir Keith scored a try from his own half against the man who used to get in the GB team ahead of him because of his better skill on attack, George Fairbairn!
