| Quote: Pacific "I'm not a Bradford fan but I don't think some of you realise how lucky you are.
You have a coach who has a winning mentality, has an authentic connection to the club and would give his life to see the glory days come back again.
After a huge transition of players and taking over after threats of administration, Lowes has brought stability, secured the signatures of quality players and made you peak at the right time of the season. More importantly, he seems commited to a long term plan of progression for the club.
Both Jimmy, and you - the fans- are frustrated right now but when you put all this is perspective and realise the odds you face in getting promoted I think you'll relaise how grateful you all are to have him as your coach. He was wrong to say what he did yesterday, but there are fans who are crying out for their coaches to speak truthfully and say what they are thinking.
His rant has made the loss seem 100x worse than what it really is. Had he gone on TV and said something like "Disappointed to lose. Wakefield deserved to win. We've achieved more than most expected us to this year though. We'll learn from this and have a better chance next year". I suspect none of you would be talking about this. Think of the positives, you beat Salford convincingly and also Leigh at their place. You're in a batter position to gain promotion next year now you have experience and more settled squad.
Put things in perspective!'"
Pacific, I accept you are not a Bradford fan but you would give Martin Luther King a run for his money - excellent speech, very motivational, it worked on me, thank you.
Having just heard Jimmy's rant on sky, I must agree with what mystic Eddie and a few others are saying. Jimmy, understandably was very emotional immediately after the game - how many of us weren't? Did he talk some cr@p - yes. Was he a hero when he played for us - yes. Ok so he's not been the best coach we've had - but he's not been the worse. Steve McNamara was a good player (remember him and Jez Donagher smashing each others heads open but getting back in the line with blood pouring down their faces) but he was a rubbish coach - so they gave him the England job!
If Jimmy goes - so be it - but a revolving door of half good half bad coaches is no good for anyone.
Whoever coaches us just needs to get the players to be consistent (and improve), Too many games we've seen a B-team turn up when the A-team had done a great job the week before. I don't care if the next coach is Bugs Bunny, I just want us to get a winning mentality back; and give the fans something to look forward to watching.

| I think he deserves another year. He managed his squad sufficiently well to get us into the game that mattered and we were beaten by a Super League club. During the year he had to work out which players had the capability to do the job and to assemble a team he thought he could rely on to implement his tactics/gameplan. We weren't quite good enough but he would start another season knowing much more about his squad.

| So you call your coach thick, then say he has fallen out with players...
mmm... I presume all of you who say these things work with the squad and coaches on a daily bases then
As for the rant, if you watched the interview with your coach on the Super League Show on Sunday night then you would have seen a measured calm response to the same questions. Sticking a camera in a losing coaches face a few minutes after the siren was only looking for car crash TV, and my god they got it.
Read Danny Lockwoods piece in today's League Weekly for a very fair assessment of the £1m Game concept.
Your entire team now have acquired really valuable experience of what this new structure requires to get promoted, and you want to throw that away. The coaches remit was to get you in this game, and then it was a lottery, your owner knew that and in reality so did all of you.

He had a squad of decent, full time players. One of only 3? in the Championship. He was at a distinct advantage over the vast majority.

| Lets get away from the emotion of Saturday. Jimmy will probably get this next year to try and do it all again. We know the guy wears his heart on his sleeve, but what you see is what you get with him, I guess we always knew that.
I just hope he has the capacity to learn from this past season, and I suppose you can lump Steve Ferres into that as well.
I hope he learns where the squad needs strengthening. That his team selections are not as baffling as they have been. His better use of O'Brien. Take a decision on Luakai, we surely can't have another season with a 20 minute prop. Get rid of the deadwood, and get us some quality halfbacks.
Wakefield and Salford will surely not be as dire next season as they have this. Leigh seem to be trying to buy their way into Super League, so it will be hard enough next year just to even make the MPG. If he doesn't learn, then he will be on his way, and we will still be in the Champioship.

He came unstuck when his squad of decent full time players were unable to beat another squad of decent full time players who plied their trade in a better league full of even better full time players. Other than that he achieved what was required. It happens frequently that teams full of better players win, especially with home advantage. His team did just enough in the regular season.

I agree, we were inches from SL. However my biggest worry is will Jimmy learn from his mistakes, or will his stubborn qualities which made him the great player he was, hold him back in his coaching.
As i've said on another thread, our bench lost us that game. It was obvious to everyone we would sturggle to beat SL sides asking Sidlow and Clough to carry the pack. But Jimmy was hell bent that Crossley and Lauaki would be his rotating props (despite Lauaki's best efforts to get dropped) and so it proved, it cost us.
If he didn't drop Lauaki after the Hull KR and Fax debacle, why would he drop him now.

| Bearing in mind we had to assemble a squad at short notice, and then tweak it during season think loses has done enough to get a second season. We addressed some of weakness's in squad during season (lack of pace and turn style defence down Henry's side) but still need to resolve halfback issue and improve pack.
Think lowes needs someone to bounce ideas off that he respects. Don't think Harrison worked as he's too similar to lowes. Ideal for me would be Brian smith in a director of rugby/ mentor role. Think lowes still respects smith but it's a question of whether his pride would allow him to take advice and learn. Also whether club finances would allow such a rôle although it's possibly something that could be done on a part time basis. Think only sensible replacement option for lowes would be Kear but I expect him to show up at Wakefield.

But at a distinct disadvantage when it came to playing SL teams in the play offs...

I realise that. My post was in response to the suggestion that he had achieved something significant in qualifying. With only 3 full time squads it would have been disastrous if he hadn't.

| While the timing and the way he mAde his comments on Sky after the match weren't great he makes a valid point. Don't forget Ferres said something similar about how championship clubs should be able to spend whAt they can afford to before the season kicked off and Derek Beaumont has too.
Brian Smith and Scott Moore agree with Jimmy saying the same things after the match and you can't put that down to sour grapes.
Having thought about it we all knew what the rules were before the season started and the club's voted for it. But it feels like a cheap gimmick to me and won't last long.
It makes me laugh seeing fans of other championship clubs saying that we didn't moan when superleague was a closed shop and we were in it. Course we didn't and neither would they if they were in it. But if they thing its still no longer a closed shop they're away with the fairies. Yes we were only a hairs breadth away from going up this time. However Wakefield were pretty farcical on and off the field this year. Unless someone goes into admin no other superleague side (including Wakefield) will be as embarrassingly uncompetitive again. They're debt free now and while they are starting recruitment late due to the super 8's they'll still have a team about 1.8 times as good as the best championship side.
Unless Derek's challenge is a success.

Very good analysis. Would love Lowes to explain some of those decisions. Dropping Tarahoui, persisting with Lauaki, flogging O'brien, and the biggest gripe for me, not giving a young promising scrum half a run out against a poor championship side and when we had injuries there.

Thats a very good analysis and it really needed saying - so I am glad he wrote that piece.
Worryingly - the opportunities for recruitment look limited right now

| Remembering that Ferres said the squad for next year would be smaller than last season, it seems to me, given the players already signed until the end of '16, we don't have much to come.
Anyone suggesting we pay Jimmy off would be suggesting we maybe can't afford another half.
