The scenario was "either/or".

| Connor has tweeted that Kearney is likely to play but Scruton needs another week.

| Call me pessimistic, but I can see a return to the silly scenario of Shad and BK sharing 1 and 6 duties..

| Quote: Adeybull "Stats for selected Bulls players and the others GB listed.
Name------tackles; missed; % missed
Kearney-------73; 26; 35%
L'estrange-----342; 32; 9%
Ah Van--------153; 33; 22%
Chase---------149; 40; 27%
Soliola---------305; 34; 11%
Witt-----------244; 36; 15%
Galea----------423; 35; 8%
Dureau---------191; 46; 24%
Monaghan------375; 32; 9%
What does this tell us?
1 - Other "key" players have indeed missed more tackles than Kearney.
2 - Kearney has missed a significantly bigger % of his tackles than any of the others - over four times as many per tackle as some of the others.
What does it NOT tell us?
1 - How many tackles BK missed playing at 6 c/w at 1?
2 - What ELSE BK did that contributed significantly to our performance on the field.
3 - How many matches each player has played, and what the match averages are.*
Can we conclude anything form the missed tackle stats?
Even though GB's figures could be viewed as misleading in isolation - the figures I have quoted maybe give a more balanced picture - he is surely spot on when he points out that to judge a player - one who most of us view (or, for those with short memories, viewed) as being our most important creative and threatening player on the park - by a single stat is disingenuous at best.
* EDIT
He also played some games at 7 and played well. I can't remember who played stand off but prior to Jeffries lets be honest it's been AN Other. I like BK but the missed tackle stat does support what I've thought watching him from the stand. With exception of the Webb tackle in the Leeds game I can't think of a 1 on 1 tackle he's actually made while defending at FB. Having said that there's lots of halves who aren't defensively solid but in a team as fragile as we have been we cannot protect him.
Line call for me, a classy player with the ball who has always given everything but in a team that is defensively suspect, he stands out.

| With 3 fit half backs we can only hope he plays Kearney at FB. But Shad doesnt deserve to be dropped. Maybe to be played in Centres, either way it will be a interesting squad selection come Sunday

| I'd go for Kearney and Jeffries to point the team around the field. If those 2 can form a decent partnership then we could have some real speed attacking the line. I know this means playing one slightly out of position but it could work??
Also..... Just watched the highlights against Harlequins. Jeffries seems to make a clean line break in every game he has played. I know everyone was a little down when he signed but he seems a different player to the one that was signed previously. Seems to have much more freedom in his game.
Our attack seems much better but I'm still not convinced by the defence.

We're looking like being very light up front Presumably Langley or Elima will have to do a stint at prop?

no different up front to last week though and we seemed to cope ok. did elima or langley do a bit at prop at quins or did the props just do longer stints?. Sibbit back this week too so that gives us another option in forwards.
would prefer we went with briggs/jeffries in halves with kearney at FB. royston into to tighten up defence out wide. If kearney does play in halves then keep him there in both attack and defense as the tactic of swapping BK and royston back and forth doesnt really work and takes something away from both players games.

seems a shame not to utilise briggs' kicking game. IF we do go kearney/ jeffries hope we dont continue the swapping idea. If kearneys playing SO then he plays it in attack and defense.

Agree that it is hard on young Kyle mate but you can't keep out one of the best players of the last three weeks or move him out of his favoured position IMO.
It's a shame about Herbert but such is life.

shifting royston to strengthens a weak spot in team and allows us utilise kearney in his best position and use kicking briggs kicking game. seems more logical to me.

Seems pretty spot on, problem area in centre strengthend by a good solid player, as long as his positional sense is good at centre and slides instead of stepping up by himself (platt). kearney briggs Jefferies all 3 can cause problems and can create space for each other. Best combination in my eyes

| Which side would you move him to? He doesn't look like a left centre to me and Ah Van has played well on the right.
I don't disagree that Briggs, Jeffries at half is best and BK is an exciting option attacking from FB but it just feels like a lot messing about. We're never the same set up/structure 3 weeks running. Bringing Herbert back in was strange and now we're thinking of changing the SH, FB, one of the centres and as I'm assuming we're not dropping Whitehead or Ah Van either a second row option or a winger.
Even when playing reasonably well and winning, Salford moved the ball across the park better and quicker than we did because they are more familiar with their attacking structure. Just as we're fighting for a little bit of form we're shifting most of the key pivots in the backline. I'm not sure this is wise.
