is that just a generalisation, or aimed at Herbert? Wingers can just fall over the line, but is there a try assist equivalent? I wouldn't have thought so

| One thing that looking at Tupou can prove about this season. We are not getting the ball wide enough. Too much up the middle and very little passing along the line. I dont understand why still though. It's obvious thats what we should be trying more, but the players just don;t seem to want to pass and play expansive rugby. Confidence problems maybe?

Maybe not equivalent but all stats really only tell half a story.
For example with that one, it would count as an assist if a player attempted to kick the ball, completely fluffed it with one of the worst kicks in the history of the game, but the fullback laughed so much at it he fell over and didn't collect the easy grubber. Superstar winger then runs in, picks the ball up and scores. Player who kicked the awful grubber is credited with an assist, despite it being absolute garbage.
Extreme example, and I'm not suggesting that's what Herbert has done, but it's just to illustrate any stats can lie.
I'm big on stats. In fact I'm often quite the anorak with them. But I'm always weary that almost all stats do not give the full picture.
(Disclaimer: This is not in any way a comment on Herbert or any other player, simply a response to a question about stats)

But I wasn't even suggesting that such stats (or any stats) give "the full picture", I was concentrating on the stat that credits the much maligned (with some justification indeed) Herbert with 13 assists. And I've seen every one of his assists, so can say, in his case, stats aside, none of them were of the fluky jammy get variety!

| I don't understand what people want from Herbert. probably their expectations are of a Sean Long Robbie Burrows etc type ie small nippy and gobby, the caricature of a "cheeky scrum half". But they have their weaknesses too, which other team members have to cover with their strengths. As the only Bulls player anywhere near the top of any stat, I have to ask what the rest of the team are doing to make the breaks and score the tries and so support what Herbert is getting right. He cant be expected to organise the team, make the breaks, do the assists and score the tries as well as tackle. We wouldnt need anybody else!

| Am I the first to post that actually went to the game??
Firstly it started in the worst conditions rain wise I've seen at a match much worse than the downpours we get over here and all credit to Ganson for keeping it going, though on a non broadcast day day it may not have gone ahead!
Due to the conditions both Teams were going to make errors drop the ball fall on the turn.
Second half the rain was easing and stopped before the end but it didn't make playing any easier, both teams had chances and Paddy probably had the best chance to win by missing a fairly easy kick but conditions made it hard for a solid standing leg at the point of the kick.
One the highlights for us was the banter with locals as both sets of fans accused Ganson of favouring the opposition!
To all the detractors it was a game we went to and were expecting to lose our unbeaten SL record. The poor weather really helped us for change in stopping the Catalans attacking play!
Also Beaver not playing also helped, though I gather he could have if pushed (his wife intimated he a slight twinge in his ham but it was ok if he was needed) so thanks Beaver for being kind to us.
So credit to both Teams for playing in very difficult conditions and well done to the Bulls for hanging in there and preserving the record!

| It was a strange game in some ways, with such a lot of standing water on the pitch you might have expected the defences to make more mistakes, but strangely it seemed to be the attacking players who stumbled more. I thought we scrambled really well in the later stages though, when Catalans put us under a fair bit of pressure and I agree it was a good point won. With all the slipping and sliding there were mistakes galore and I guess a draw was a fair result with Ganson annoying both sets of fans in equal measure.

Incorrect: Elliott Whitehead is No2 in the lists for missed tackles and No4 in the list for errors
As for Herbert and his assists it's a good job he does makes some as there's no other Bulls player in the top 25.
Unsurprisingly there's no Bulls player at all in the top 25 for clean breaks. It just shows how little strike power we have. It's a bit churlish to reserve all the criticism for our one creative player.
