I've also had a very helpful update from an FC fan currently in Oz, who reminded me (I've so lost touch with the NRL of late that I had forgotten - put it down to advancing years

) that he used to be the head coach with the Doggies.

Folkes was also a 1986 Kangaroo and played for Fax once upon a time.

He has a future in coaching exaggerated hand gestures if that doesn't work out for him.

whats in sadlers rag is that betts has definitely been interviewed along with 3 others who are rumoures to be macca,agar and mcdermott. seemingly noble and kear ( the only other english SL head coaches) have declared they arent interested. seems like RFL are looking for an english head coach.

could put us in an awkward position if macca does get england gig and leaves us mid season ( although certain posters would no doubt be delighted), with us having no replacement lined up. Presumably if we are thinking of changing coaches we'd be lining someone up for next season and cant say thought of st hilaire in charge for rest of this season fills me with confidence.

After the way Hood's stood by McNamara these past 4 seasons I'd be surprised and disappointed if McNamara left the club in the lurch. I expect his departure when it comes to be managed pretty well and can't see him doing a runner and leaving Medders and LSH in charge.

Notwithstanding Hood's loyalty to MacNamara so far, I sincerely hope that he has already been doing due dilligence on options for a coach for next season.

In spite of the excellent work that MacNamara has done in changing the structure of the club (some see this as propaganda, but I see no reason to doubt it) and in spite of the restrictions that he has worked under, the harsh fact is that he hasn't yet proven himself as a first team coach. Due to his long contract, he has the luxury of the rest of this season to get to the point of proving himself, and I greatly hope that he does. However, the club can't afford to take it on trust - hence the need to be sounding out alternatives already.

If that has been happening, and if MacNamara does go mid-season, one would hope that there might be a possibility of getting a quality replacement in quickly - but failing that, I for one would be willing to put up with a caretaker, if I knew and was happy with the incoming coach for next season.
