The sarcasm isn't lost on me but I think you're wrong to suggest it wasn't visionary to copy a winning formula whether that be Keighley, Chicago or anyone else. |

| Now the Yanks would have no problem with calling you the Guillotines or the Hallers (short for Thrum Hallers) and would work with each of those. Just have a look at some of the names in the NBA and MBL. Both would pick up some opposition, but imagine the mascot you could have if you picked the latter.

Well I DID suggest "Pink Panties" earlier... 
When the suffixes were brought in, there were strong marketing reasons (and not entirely unrelated to the Superleague wars in Oz...) for it - not least trying to present the impression to the non-RL world that this was almost a new, bit-like-american-football game.
The strongest of the "brands" (Bulls, Whinos etc) have stuck, and the weakest have either disappeared (BlueSox, Sharks..) or are suffering a lingering death (Warriors...) whereas the likes of Stains and HKR never felt the need to adopt one and their judgment has proved sound.
As things stand now, I'd say that if there is no pressing need to adopt a suffix, and if the club already has a strong historic name (like Halifax) then why do it? |
