I see that Brett Ferres has been suspended by Giants. I hear we could be on the lookout for another 2nd rower, worth a punt? Hear the lad is OK.
Mock you not, after all second row is the base template for all rugby players; show a bit of pace and you can double up in the threequarters, good hands and you're a shoo-in for emergency loose or hooker, when you grow bit older and gain a little more timber you move up to prop. Jimmy has clearly seen the light.....

| Latest article says Jarrod Sammut isn't on the Bulls radar, why do I get the feeling that there's nobody on our radar.

Seems that way, certainly for a scrum half!
2 decent scrum half's pretty much available in Godinet and Sammut yet we come out with "not on our radar" unless they have a little gem lined up that no one has heard about yet... its become more and more frustrating!

| Last year we jumped in two footed and rushed the signing of a 7, and look how that worked out. We ended up with a scrum half that hardly anyone other than Lowes rated, spent considerable time injured, and then left a year later moaning about how fans didn't understand how amazing he really was, despite no evidence to suggest it was true.
Rather than doing the same thing and rushing the signing of a 7, perhaps they've decided this time to go with what we've got for now, then wait for the right player to come along further down the line. Later in the season when someone isn't getting game time at his club and becomes unhappy, we end up with a better 7 for waiting than a Sammut or Godinet who have been considered not good enough for even Wakefield.

| Problem with that option is we will be getting the excuses of "need time to settle in and learn combinations"
I would rather pre-season is used for that and the season is used to make sure everyone is up to speed ready for the business end!

I think most would agree that last season wasn't very good in the halves department - in fact, that is probably in for a prize as the biggest understatement of the year.
I think, in fairness to all concerned, we were in a bit of a hole after Gareth O'Brien gave backword, so it's a bit difficult to start apportioning 'blame'; we needed a scrum half and we got a bloke with a decent background who'd been injured and.....and well, we all know what happened. We all know the qualities that Sammut would bring - both positive and negative and I for one have seen plenty of positives from Godinet, 'good enough', for Wakefield, or not.
We're in division two, we don't have a SL cap, or finances and for what it's worth I'd have either. I can understand the idea of, "hanging on", to see who might become available but, of course, it just may be that absolutely no-one of note comes available, and then chances are we'll probably have missed out on Sammut and Godinet. Either way round it's a gamble.
As for our 'radar', I guess there's nothing on it because it's either 'gone technical' or isn't monitored...

| I'm not sure which is more depressing; waiting for Godinet or waiting for sammutt else to turn up

If those are the only options (one of which isn't really even an option) then we've got problems...

Really? Godinet and Sammut are quality players for what our goal is and would improve our team. Rangi is a non-starter, but Lee Smith at FB and Mullaney at 7 would be an improvement IMHO.

| Don't believe we will see Jake Mullaney next season, so a number 7 has to be high on the wish list.

| The puzzle for me is if these are decent players why are they currently without a club and very close to not earning a wage if contracts end at the end of November. I suspect some have already signed and waiting for announcement. My 50p bet would still be on Godinet. I just don't think Sammut is a play maker for number 7. too much of a loose cannon. I think Jimmy will be looking for a solid, reliable organiser and that probably rules out Sammut - but I may be wrong unless we lose our hooker and then we could sign both?

| After just missing out last year in the MPG after struggling without a decent HB for most of the season whilst Sammutt was available, it would be a brave man that would now sign him up.
