got it in one I think.
what would be funnier would be if this was true and kearney and l'estrange reported the illegal approach to the club and we reported leeds under ant-tampering rules.

Well, going back to the early days of the Harris saga, Leeds DID tap up Jamie Peacock and WERE speaking to him as early as March of the year his contract ended, as against the end of August, when they should have started talks. Full details of the tryst in Brian Smith's house in the country, and the dates and the members of the rule breaking Leeds negotiating team can be found in JP's book, No White Flag.
The fact that he published all this, and nothing has been said, suggests that actually no one gives a damn.

| wasn't the peacock signing announced on the day Leeds were officially allowed to talk to him? My guess is that Peacock announced he was leaving and Bradford allowed him to talk to other clubs.

That's certainly not the way it appeared in the book. JP fell out with Chris Caisley big time and they were on very bad terms. JP felt he was entitled to better wages but CC told him (according to the book) to........well, the second word was "off".
You may be correct, I've no way of knowing. According to JP though, at a later stage the club did make efforts to make him change his mind (which hardly suggests they were happy to see him leave, or would have facilitated his leaving) but JP felt 'disrespected' and turned down these approaches from the club. To state the obvious, if his decision to join Leeds was announced on the official first approach day, then the discussions had clearly been going on for some time before that.

everyone knows it goes on every year and turns a blind eye to it. But if a club makes an official complaint then RFL have to investigate and can issue fines. Didnt wakefield (I think) get done for tapping up a few years back and fined?
I'd guess in peacock case we didnt lodge any complaint.

| If I remember rightly the Peacock stuff started as early as March 2005 when he met Tony Smith & Gary Hetherington. He left that year in October after captaining us to a Grand Final victory over his future employers.
I imagine that the board have identified who are the highest priority re-signings and will be approaching them with deals over the coming weeks. I would have thought that most of these deals will have been discussed and possibly even agreed.
It's pretty obvious to me, sign him up!

| Going by what has been discussed at previous fans forums in regards to play signings, it seems to me that it goes this way;
The club will know who they want to keep and who to let go usually by the half way point of the year.
Player agents know who's out of contract that year and DO contact all clubs as it's their job to ensure they get the best deal for their client.
Clubs make no "official" approaches to players, however, they may say "That player is OOC? Hmm, he fit in well here" or something along those lines, which means that when that player gets offered a deal by his current club he knows that he could get a deal at another club.
As for players who are told they're not being offered a new deal? Well, I was told that Terry Newton's drop in form round the middle of his last year with us was down to him being told he was not going to be offered a new deal with the club.
