That sort of behaviour has gone on down the centuries. In the 17th and 18th centuries it was common for someone to appear in court charged with poaching a rabbit to feed his starving family - only to find the magistrate was the farmer from whose land he took said creature.

I'm sure that nothing even remotely like that would occur in these enlightened times though....
