Friday evening traffic on the M62. Better to set off early than set off in close time, get stuck in traffic and not get there in time for Kick Off. Makes perfect sense.

Yes there is.
When you're old enough to drive, you'll understand more.
If you don't like it, don't go.
Couple of years ago, the club coaches set off 7 hours before kick off for Harlequins game. A trip that normally takes approx 4 hours. They got there 15/20 minutes after kick off due to heavy traffic and works on ONE road.

I'll be driving so it won't make much difference to me. But I'll also be setting off nice and early.
Driving any sort of distance is in no way an exact science. You have two choices:
1) Set off in a normal time, and risk hitting some bad traffic and not getting to the game in time for Kick Off.
2) Set off a little too early and risk getting there a good hour or more before Kick Off.
I certainly know which of those two options I prefer. The idea of being there stupidly early and having to potter around for a bit is a far better one than the idea of potentially missing the kick off.
If you think they can pinpoint how long the journey will take within 15 minutes or so, then you really don't understand driving at all.

| Now now Dilligaf calm down just for a minute !!!!
I am aiming to set off at 5.30pm. Even if there is rush hour traffic I'm sure I will have plenty of time to get there.

All aimed very much at our Terrace Singing friend, I assure you
I'd say that's fair enough. It would take some very bad traffic to stop you getting there in time for that. I'll probably set off around the same.

Well that's your decision mate, but we've been left to run from the coach to the ground too many times for me to moan about being too early. Though I fully appreciate it ain't too easy to make 5.15 if you're working.

If you drove a suped up Nova with an 8" diameter exhaust like Terrace you too could leave at 6.30.

| When you're travelling over you'll need to be aware that, depending on how many of you are travelling, the approach to Widnes can get snarled up a bit. There are road works and silly traffic lights (silly because they let about three cars through on each change). There are three routes into Widnes from the motorways and from St Helens and they converge on a single carriageway. When Warrington came, it took 45 minutes for my bus to get from St Helens to Widnes, which is approximately 7 miles. Most of that time was spent sitting on that bloody road going nowhere. Now, you won't be bringing as many as Warrington - no-one does these days! - but if people leave it late then there is a possibility they will get held up as they enter Widnes.
Just a friendly warning to bear in mind!
A couple of other hints for those of you who haven't been before: if it is anything below 20 degrees then you may well need to bring warm clothing. There seems to be a permanent breeze into the stands and also the back of the North Stand can leak if it rains. You may be in the West Stand, which is the official away end, but that wasn't opened for the Quins match so it may not be for the Bradford match either, presumably that depends on how many tickets you buy.
If you like a hot drink and you purchase said hot drink at the stadium, bring gloves. You will NOT be able to carry a hot drink for more than about ten seconds. A number of us complained to Halton council about this but as at our last match there no-one had listened. They still use plastic cups for hot drinks, making them impossible to hold without gloves on.
Oh, and there is street parking around the stadium as well as on the roads off the main road opposite the stadium. There is also a car park near to the stadium (not the stadium car park as that is passes only). If the stadium is to your left, then take the left turn just before you get to the stadium (you will see the stadium well ahead of you). There is a car park down that road on the left. Presumably they charge.
