I’m not sure what else we can expect. There’ll be outcry when Hallas is confirmed at Newcastle and Hitchcock is signed up at Leigh but as long as we are only spending what we can afford then so be it, the league position will look after itself. I for one wouldn’t expect anything else other than ‘ we are going for SL’ but only to the extent we can afford. Do I think we will get promoted, no, but we’ll be competitive or there or thereabouts

Just don't even mention SL, it's not like we are trying to cling onto supporters from our heyday in SL. We are down to the absolute hard-core, the majority of whom are intelligent enough to see our squad for what it is. Raising expectations about challenging for SL when clearly don't have the resources (evidenced by recruitment) seems rather pointless and will do nothing to bring more people through the gates/buy season tickets, in fact I'd say it is more likely to put them off if anything.

Fairly solid and competitive squad tbf… Ino they are still well out of our reach but fev do you really think they are improving? There signings are so far fairly uninspired imo I’d say we are gaining though not enough I grant you

When does the central funding cut happen? This season coming? If we can maintain the squad quality when income drops I’ll be happy. I take it it’ll be ourselves, London, Newcastle running reserves and academy?

Now he is announced as being fit to return to the field would anyone like to see us sign Turgut?

York have signed Pauli Pauli. Now that's the sort of signing we should be making if we want to increase ticket sales. But I suppose we just can't afford it.

Personally don't think he'd be the right signing for us IMHO even if we could afford him.

Don't get me wrong, he could rip the championship to bits if he's on it. But how much will his heart be in it on a cold wet windy day up in Cumbria? There is a reason he's gone from the NRL to Wakey to Salford and now to the championship in about 4 years.

If York can use him effectively, and their controlling a game, they've one hell of a player at this level. But could just as easily be tearing their hair out at him taking the ball in 5 times in a game.

Pauli Pauli is a big lad who's good for the odd 10-15mins in attack but he's slow in defence and we've a few players that are a bit like oil tankers with their lateral movement already.

He's always looked a bit of lazy lump to me, reckon he will struggle a bit on some of the heavier pitches early season.

Past experience suggests that quality players will become available during the season, so I think if we can establish a competitive team now and see how things are going into the season, I'm happy with that.

If we are not too far away from the leaders and showing that we can complete with some backing, then I could see us strengthen for a play off push. However, if we are grinding out wins against Widnes, York and Halifax then no amount of money is going to challenge Leigh and Fev.

The new ownership appears to have steadied the ship and I'm hoping the years of boom and bust are long gone. Until we find a wealthy backer, this is going to be the tale every season going forward.

Wonder if people stop and think sometimes maybe John doesn’t want the player, or he doesn’t fit into the budget?

Sadly people don't read comments John. They see what they want to see, then jump down your throat for something they 'think' you meant. Its becoming more common on here im afraid.
