Sounds like Leon at Bradford....
To be honest, based on the 3 times I've seen Jeffries play so far this season, I wouldn't even put him in the 19. Morrison, Menzies, Sykes, not bothered who plays there as long as it's not Jeffries. Until he plays a hell of a lot better, he shouldn't be in our team. If he starts to prove himself in the reserves, give him another chance.

| Jeffries looks lost and certainly isn't directing play. His core skills don't seem up to it and his supposed pace isn't getting him clear of tackles. On current form he doesn't merit a place in the team.
Can anyone suggest why Sherrife is getting stick after 2 games where he doesn't appear to have done anything wrong?

Hence the approach for Bird, I guess - suggests the club clearly see that too. I guess in fairness the Wakey fans were right when they said at the time that he can be very impressive when the team are on top but missing when under the cosh? Rather like another wannabe stand-off we used to have, even? As I now see someone else has just observed...
If BJ doesn't improve then I guess best option would be Beaver at #6 once we get Lynch and Langley back?

Thats easy. The Negative Tendency, those who have been turned by the Dark Side of the Board, had long-ago decided that most of our new signings were rubbish anyway. So clearly he MUST be rubbish regardless of what actually happens, since they had already determined that he is. See?
HTH?

Didn't most of the team win the 2005 NRL Grand Final?

| I think with Sheriffe, it is very difficult to judge one way or the other as he hasn't really had the ball all that much.
I can't say I'm happy with the signing, but as I said before the season, you gotta give someone a chance before writing them off. I don't think it's fair to slate Sheriffe's performances as he can't play well if he never gets the ball. By no means has he done well, but he also hasn't done anything bad as far as I can see, so I would say if anything, reserve judgement on that particular signing for now.

He played ok Friday and looked to have settled a bit better than the HKR game where he looked nervous. Can't really judge him until he's 10 - 15 games in and hopefully scoring/creating tries, which as a winger he should be judged on.

...is the right answer.
And if he doesn't see much of the ball, he's hardly going to have much opportunity to shine anyway?

and so we return to Jeffries lack of direction and poor distribution of the ball.
Newtons form is also not looking good and with 2 out of 3 pivotal positions misfiring it's not really a surprise we aren't scoring. The area's we are weakest in squad terms are causing me the most concern and neither are under pressure from other players.

i think newton's criticism is slightly unfair. he offers a lot in defence and the effort was there on Friday going forward. I think his arm injury hampered him slightly.

| Sheriffe's performances have been steady so far while not really eye catching. That's not surprising given the lack of service. Having said that he can go looking for the ball too and I hope to see him do more of this. The best wingers in the game were adept at reading the game and supporting breaks down the middle or even popping up on the opposite wing at times.
I suggest he gets hold of some DVDs of Offiah and watch his movement off the ball, he may pick up some tips. I'd like to see him hang around in midfield and follow the likes of Burgess, Scruton, Menzies and Morrison when they take the ball up, those guys are all capable of getting their hands free and passing to a support player if he was there. It's an area we can improve on and would give Sheriffe a chance to use his pace.
On Jeffries he's never been a consistent player so we can't argue we've been sold a pup. We knew what we were getting. The challenge is to get him to improve and that seems to come when those around him get better. Until we get some competition for places at halfback we're going to have to deal with things as they are.

I'm not criticising his effort or defence I'm talking about creating chances and opening up defences and i don't think he's anywhere near the top of his game at the moment. He is a much better player than we are seeing and if you add in Jeffries misfiring our attacking options look very limited.

Menzies especially has been looking round at times wondering where the support is. Just track him for a game and he'll get chances then we'll see if he can take them.

| Quote: Block5Bull "Lots of perfectly reasonable stuff on another thread about the team and McNamara, but for me the worst thing on show last night was Jefferies. What does he offer us? Poor kicking, poor decision making and astonishingly bad passing behind a dominant pack going forward. I lost count of the number of times that he wasted overlaps in the first half near their line by not releasing the ball quickly or else hurled the ball behind players or so far above their heads that they had to jump to catch the ball and all momentum was lost. He's an opposition defensive coach's dream.
If Deacon gets injured this season we are absolutely lost.'"
