Agreed. We struggled when we lost Sidlow and Kavanagh. Yere took a lot of holding as usual and Tyson always beat the first man.

For the middle 40mins we were 2nd best. Had it not been for Chisholm and his unorthodox kicking we'd probably have lost.

Almost half that side were playing their last game for us and that's for the best I think.

Better times just around the corner.

Watching my first game for nearly 7 seasons today and I enjoyed the banter with some of my old friends. I enjoyed the game also, but I wish the Bull's could have shown the same enthusiasm as Sheffield did (and their level of fitness, if only the Bull's could be as fit as Senior), and also full marks their supporters. Grand lot, chatting to them and no animosity at all from them. Sheffield's blond centre looked good and so did our hooker. All in all, nice to be back again.

Senior was moving very fast just in case Big Joe popped up to tackle him again

The difference between this time and last time was the pack, for the majority of the game, we were outmuscled and struggling to hold Sheffield, and when you're on the back foot then life ain't easy. When i say "pack", Sheffield do have the big lads at the back too and because their team was making inroads that meant there were many chances for Yere and Co to hit the defensive line at speed. That made it a contest.

With Sidlow and Kavanagh off we were seriously lacking . To me, that will be at the front of Rohan's thinking, I'm sure he knows that the foundation of any good team in this league is a big, mean pack that comes out on top.

On the plus side, some of our kicking (I'll ignore missing touch) was a real treat to watch, Sheffield were at times mesmerised, and I love that off-the-cuff stuff, but especially when you're good enough to make it come off 8 times out of 10.

Also, despite being outmuscled, we dug in, gritted our teeth, and got the job done. Despite an infuriating effort from the ref and his touchies, who as we won I can state were maddeningly random and inconsistent. I actually quite rate the ref, he shows promise, and has a calm style, but when he watches the video he'll think it wasn't one of his better days.

A win's a win, even though it's a disgrace we were ever in the sellling plate, we have some welcome cash (including from a decent all-pay crowd) and let's hope it is enough to keep the wolf from the door.

On the minus side, Green suggested we should get to the ground early, and spend with the Bulls rather than outside the ground. So i did. I made my way to our allotted shrine behind the stand, and ordered a pie and a pint. "Sorry sir, no pies". Why not? Some feeble excuse that made no sense. What is this? A Final, and we can't even get some fscking pies in? I thought that was pretty bad - until I sat down and the lady on our table said they didn't even have any crisps. "Shambles" isn't the word.

Anyway, that's this dire season done, finishing to me on a (relatively high note:
a) we're still here (if only just)
b) we now at last have the backbone of a half-decent squad and promising juniors
c) we won something. It may be shoite, but it is, apparently, our first trophy for 10 years. So I'll drink to that, and to next season, where if we can sort out how to finance it, we could be a whole lot better.

For every piece of Chisholm brilliance today, he made a stupid play, and that moment where he should have passed to Moss (or whoever was on his left shoulder) but instead tried to throw an unnecessary dummy. AOB deserved his MoM. He was lively today - he responded brilliantly to the gaps in the line as they appeared and made a mug of the markers on several occasions.

I'm glad this season is over and now we can look to the future without enduring more of the tripe we've put on this season.

I hope everyone got a chance to sample a sausage from the German sausage stand - they were delicious!!

Really?? He got us the ball back on at least 5 occasions and his General kicking was spot on too. I think he made 2 mistakes, one where he threw a forward pass on the last tackle instead of kicking and the dummy. But if had have passed it and the full back intercepted, we would have still been moaning. But it was hardly every good think he did he made a mistake. I think it was at least y good things he did he made 1 mistake.

Give me someone like Chisholm who may have a mistake in him, but has the craft and predictability to come up with plays not many in SL can muster. We need creativity, not a steady Eddie who does a nice safe drop off that everyone in the stadium can see coming.

When is the open top bus parade through the city centre?

Thank goodness it is all over for a few months.
As FA says, lets just be pleased we are still here and have something positive to look forward to next year. The backs are fine for me apart from a decent centre but Smith needs to pull a few big nasty rabbits out of the hat to stiffen us up down the middle.

Absolutely agree. I thought he was excellent.

Hopefully the 3000 odd crowd will have boosted Sheffield's coffers a little as well.

I don't disagree that some of what he did today was brilliant - I have never seen a team regain the ball from the restart so often in the game and that was all down to him. I'm sure he made more errors than two, but that's academic I suppose. I may have been slightly critical in my appraisal but that's probably because I couldn't be ar*ed recollecting the number of times he made a stupid play icon_lol.gif

I was stood behind a bloke in the bar behind the stand (the only bar behind there that's open now by the way) at about 2:30 who was told they'd sold out of Crisps. It seems they don't have a large stock at all of them and they go quickly. Now someone with business sense might think that means get some more available, but apparently it's been like that at least since we ended up in the Shield.

It's baffling at times. Green keeps making these noises about spending money in the ground, but then all you hear is how they sell out of things way too quickly, or the gates don't open until late anyway. It seems like quite a shambles to me.

He's not a great businessman. I think that's clear.
