| Pickersgill was our most impressive back last season – attacking wise anyway. He’s got pace and had started to run a lot straighter rather than running his outside men out of space as he’d done in previous years. When he was out injured we really missed his link play. Fullback is a very important position nowadays from an attacking point of view so I hope we recruit someone decent as replacement - is Hall that player?. Let’s face it we’re not exactly overflowing with attacking options.
Defensively it’s a different matter. He was decent under the kick but as a last line of defence he was pretty clueless.
We’ve had 4 or 5 good years out of him and he’ll improve I reckon. Not sure he’ll ever be SL quality but he’s decent for our level.

| Matty Dawson-Jones has penned a new one-year deal.
Not sure how I feel about that. It certainly isn't the bounce that is needed after announcing that our No.1 has gone to a rival/bigger team.

| [list Quote: RagingBull "Kear is deffo NOT a full back
Hall wasnt even the best full back at Batley.
I really hope our players player of the year hasnt been replace by a lad that cant get in Batleys starting 13.
Id be amazed and severly underwhelmed if we dont sign an out and out 1 to be first choice.
Adam Quinlan and Alex Walker are still available and it seems our neigbours have settled with Myler at 1 so one of Jack Broadbent or Jack Walker (once fit again) maybe available for a loan.'"
Let us hope that Elliott Hall is playing on Sunday at Halifax, and in the play offs.
He makes such a massive "Difference", and that is what we have needed recently. Look at our results without him in the team... He can score a try from nothing - a "Predator", Who was the last player we had at the Bulldogs who could do that?
In my opinion Elliott needs to be accommodated somewhere in the team next season, and has been a tremendous asset for us this season, as his try scoring record shows.
As they say ..You do not know what you had...until its gone
This is a Batley fans write up on Elliott Hall.
He was also joint top scorer at Batley.
To say he ain't good enough without giving him a chance is pretty poor.

| I'm happy with Dawson-Jones. We would have all rated him as out best back 12 months ago. He was just very unlucky with injury this year. Can't imagine he cost the earth either.

Well he'll certainly be fresh for the new season - he must have played about 4 games across 2020 and 2021

Utter rediculous comment. In no way shape or form have i written the lad off. Hes a great addition that can come on provide a spark anywhere across the back line hopefully and certainly adds depth. I dont however see him as a 1st choice full back

| Dawson-Jones is a great re-signing. If his injuries are behind him. Great at making yards on get-out sets and certainly knows how to score some tries! Keeps his positioning well in attack and can read an opposition attack well. Easily our best winger when fit.

| For me now the first choice backs are:
Hall
Dawson-Jones
Gill
Evans
Kear
Brough
Patton
Some set of backs is that.

He has come to be first choice FB not to play across the back line.
You don't see him as first choice FB so you have written him off as that's where he wants to play and will be a back up player if not at FB.
Hall
Dawson-Jones
Gill
Evans
Kear
Where else does Hall fit in if not at FB?

Is there anything offical that hes come to be 1st choice fullback? Or is that just your opinion?
Pretty clear from my previous statement where i personally see him. Can cover anywhere from 1 to 5. Great to have those players in the squad. And will deffo be needed throughout the year. I wish him every success. To say ive written the lad off is laughable

| Good luck to Pickersgill.
I’m disappointed to lose a young, homegrown talent. But I think we have improved overall in the backs.
I’m not convinced he is SL quality but hope he pushes on in a better side and gets his opportunity to prove me wrong.
For us, I think we look like we’ll have a stronger squad next year so we have to trust Kear to make the right judgement in terms of what players are worth and the balance in the squad.
We got that seriously wrong this year but I think there are lots of reasons for that (I’m not convinced we’d have taken half of the dead wood this year if not for Covid and all the issues with funding).

Well it might be. Hall looks unproven at FB whilst potentially exciting. Brough is nearly 40 and needs to play 7 with as little contact as possible. Evans and Kear need to be on the right and don't exactly scream 'pace' and Dawson Jones.... you bin gone too long.
Are we going to get any quick ball? But yeah, potentially big improvement.

| With the squad as it stands. Hall has to be our number 1 as I don't see anyone else who could play there. Kear showed in the play-off he doesn't quite have the passing skill set that Pickersgill has to play at 1. The back-line looks much better than this years though IMO
Pickersgill will certainly be a miss attacking wise. As Bullseye said, his running angle to draw the man in improved, great passing and I thought his support play was superb too. That said whenever an opposition made a break, unless someone in the defensive line got back, it was a try as he a rarely made the tackle. He was a FT player a I believe and we have to weigh up our options if he's worth that.
I think he will go well at Fev as they will dominate most games which will see his strengths shine and be protected from his weaknesses.
