| Positives for us - I thought we kept our composure quite well in the 1st half when the ref had lost control of the game. We scored some good tries. I thought the pack was excellent, particularly Sidlow and O'Brien. Had we had another prop to come on like Lauaki or Davies and perhaps Ferguson for Olbison then I think we'd have done better.
Negatives - Siejka getting binned twice was a killer. What an idiot. It really cost us when he was off as Leigh spotted us being man down and put the ball wide to good effect. Out edge defence was a bit poor particularly on the right side where Walker doesn't look quick enough for the centres to me - hopefully Blythe and or Baille will be back soon. Siejka also needs to practice his goalkicking he looked very average in the friendlies and he missed a sitter yesterday.
I enjoyed the day, it was a very entertaining game. Nice ground too. We've lots of room for improvement but I'm sure we'll get there. Had that game been in 4 or 5 weeks time it would've been closer.

| Lets be straight, Cobb was incompetent yesterday, totally lost control of the game within the first 20 minutes - he couldn't even form a scrum!
First half we played some good stuff but got drawn into the rough stuff which clearly favoured the opposition. Siejka spending quarter of the match off the field was a killer, he's clearly competitive which is good but he needs be a lot smarter than that.
Second half we looked knackered and fell off far too many tackles, no excuses conceding 30 points - poor at any level. Not wanting to make a scapegoat of anyone but the team just cannot afford to carry Walker for the rest of the season just because he's the "captain" Chev's just not up to it anymore i'm afraid, especially in the Centre's.
As for the Purtell "no try" very poor decision, it was grounded it was right in front of us and at 20-6 up could have put the game to bed.

I remember at the time thinking what a completely baffling decision that was. The arm he was carrying the ball with, was the one he landed on, and the ball was very clearly grounded, before he was then turned over.
My initial thought was that the referee simply hadn't kept up with it enough to see the initial grounding, but then I realised there was an in goal touch judge. What exactly was he doing, scratching his backside?
It's no excuse whatsoever for losing the game, but it was a truly awful call.

No in-goal touch judges in the Championship. Just like no video refs - so the ref and his two touch judges have to make all the decisions in this league.

| Watched it on LCTV and it didnt look grounded, with the Brierley pass to Higson being forward, missed by the TJ but given by the ref
Return fixture will be a cracker, and I would hope you would be allocating us a section of the covered stand at the same admission costs to enhance the atmosphere

Does Siejka have a track record as a kicker? It wasnt just that he missed a sitter, but he nearly did the same with his first attempt. Hopefully he'll get a fair bit of practice in the next few months, but we really will need a reliable kicker when it gets to the end of the season. I thought his second sin binning was very poor. I didnt see the first but in all the mayhem its to be expected that a couple of players will lose their cool. Its a fine line between ill discipline and not being seen as a soft touch.
The lack of another prop proved costly in the second half.

| Quote: Greg Florimos Boots "Its typical from him to be fair. He is an embarrassment to Leigh, I think we played them about 3 seasons back when we were expected to win and Leigh ended up beating us, we had some light hearted banter with the Leigh fans around us when one guy in particular started getting a bit mouthy f'ing and blinding and been aggressive towards our fans. I dont usually bother when that happens and didnt bother turning round, eventually after it carried on for a while I turned around only to see it was Beaumont.'"
And to add to that - here is another thread about him - from an unexpected corner!
rlhttps://www.totalrl.com/forums/index.php/topic/263934-foul-and-abusive-language/rl
And to add to the strangeness of the day - we had two pints of bitter (over ordered) and not wanted. We tried to give them away to any Leigh fans around us and nobody wanted them... I mean giving free beer away and no takers - not computing!

Pollsters doing Excellent job - say recent polls.: |
|
| Chev will be at loose for the next few games I would think, after Addy's injury. Should be more effective there if he can join his (long ago) instincts from being a good centre with his (now) forward build.

| Quote: HamsterChops "Also to note, much respect to Jake Emmitt, who took taunts from the crowd in very good spirits and gave it back in a good natured way yesterday. Brierley and Hopkins may not have been quite so good natured, but Emmitt was a credit to himself and the club.'"
Thought Emmitt was immense yesterday. No coincidence that we got back into the game during a spell with him and Wilkes on the pitch at the same time. They both calmed things down by doing what they are paid to do, run the ball in hard and do nothing stupid. Gave platform for Moimoi to have an impact when he came on. Acton could be struggling to keep his place when Spencer is fit, was a stupid challenge that led to his sin binning.

| I was directly in front of Purtell when he dived over and he did get the ball down. The reason the ref didn't give it was that he was positioned on the other side to the ball carrying arm and didn't get a clear view. There were lots of defenders around in the way. Clear need for in goal judges in this situation.
That said these things happen. We were still 14 points up. Instead we conceded territory and gave some needless penalties away. The Siejka sin binning being a pivotal moment. One Leigh got on the right edge we struggled to contain them.
Siejka's goalkicking isn't good enough at the moment. I'm not sure about the rest of his game either the but early days.
That said Gaskell looked very classy.

| Emmitt was getting the mickey taken out of him but laughed it off. Mature reaction. Thought Acton and Barlow needed to chill out when the game finished. Less mature.

| I honestly can't get my head around why Walker was picked in the centres? He was past playing in the centres about 4 years ago so to pick him there in front of Ulugia, Henry, Shaw or Walshaw is ridiculous. I'd take any one of those over Walker in that position. Was it a case of trying to fit the captain in somewhere or is that the position Lowes see's him playing? I knew that we'd have trouble down his flank as soon as the team was announced. Barmy decision.

Couldn't agree more
When we were stripped bare last year it was one thing for Chev to have to play wherever there was a need, but yesterday we had a centre on the bench, plus two more making up the 19 man squad. And that's before we consider Walshaw
Baffling
