I always thought "It's a Grand Old Team" would be a good song for Bradford, and unique in RL.

Except...rang no bells with me so just googled it...not so sure to be honest. eusa_think.gif

I'm a sad old bugger who always though "Run with the Bulls" was pretty good!

I remember...1997...Knowsley Road...stuffed the Stains, Goulding was long-term suspended and (allegedly) doing bad things, and Long was just starting to make a name for himself. We were stood with a group who always seemed to start all the chants. Remember them to this day...went by the names of e.g. Wardy, Tank, Animal...and I think it was "Wardy" who always started it going. He was absolutely bloody brilliant at it too. I learnt LOADS of new songs that day and bloody well enjoyed it! k020.gif Where are the likes of them now?

Which reminds me too of the days when we filled the end terrace at the Shay - I miss going there...was always a good day out! One day sticks in my mind...Ian "Headhunter" walking down in front of the terrace and taking the adulations of his admiring fans as he did so. Was brilliant! What happened to times like that???

And then of course the days out at Wilderspool and the like...and all the flags on the cars on the motorway. And the traffic jam under the Tinsley viaduct when we won SL in 1997 and every man and his Bull blowing their horns...

Sorry guys...getting a bit sentimental. But we HAD something in those days. It's gone. Can we get it back? Imagine if we just could??

Never liked Kevin Costner, or any other Robbing Hood!!!!:

We'd had years of no success followed by a change in name, change in game (summer RL) and some success. allied to this was imaginative, innovative marketing, and plenty of free tickets for school kids.

IMO, the club should aim to give out at least 2000 free kids tickets every home game, not just doing deals for the games when we play the likes of catalans, quins and crusaders. make it that each free kid must bring an adult paying a tenner! make the matchday attractive to all rather than just seeing it as an opportunnity to get more money out of fewer people.

what would be better at odsal, 8000 paying £18 quid each, or 14000 paying a tenner??? big crowds create anticipation. in 1996-2000, there were people who came to matches simply to see what all the fuss was about!

I just paid £120 for my Bradford City season ticket for next season. I get 22 home league matches, and free passes for my three sons. i get a reserved covered seat.

To stand and watch 14 matches at odsal, uncovered, would cost £185. to sit would cost £200 thats almost double the money for just over half the matches.

I know it is hard to compare things like this, but for me this is part of why the bulls are failing to compete in terms of crowds, and therefore atmosphere.

I'm sure we could.....

Although is some of the memory distorted slightly due to the fact we went from being pretty poop to a really good side and went from 3000 on the terraces to 3 times that.
And all pretty much over night!?

Some good, valid points in there.

I think the ground issue needs sorting out first, then we can look at better deals, generating that "must see" attitude etc.

The 18,000 ground that is / was to be built for us at Odsal, could be a stroke of genius.

Although I thought it showed a lack of ambition initially, i.e. why not have a 25,000 stadium, I now think it's a good idea.

The fact that it could easily be a sell out, in turn generates more interest and demand for tickets, do you remember going up to get your OT ticket in 03, 04 05, knowing it was going to be a sell out? It was a mad panic hoping you'd secure yours. The fact it was a sell out created even more of a buzz, and so the upward spiral continued....

Imagine that week in, week out!
Season ticket sales would go up massively IMO

The effing and jeffig Everton versions are a bit crass but the original fits quite well - though the "we don't care if they win lose or draw" is probably a little extreme Positive Tendency for most palates.

As for can we get the 96 spirit back, I think it will be difficult. We have only had 13 years since out last Wembley final as opposed to 23 back then, and we've had plenty of big days out around the country up till four years ago. People were talking of final fatigue. How long will it take for Bull fans to regard finals and trophies as a bonus rather than a right?

As for City's cheap season tickets, while it appears a no-brainer, the fact that it seems to have been little replicated in the football league makes me wonder if the economics add up. If you just give your product away, will people still pay for it?

I think the trick is it get people to the games (for free), get them hooked, they will then happily pay full wack.

This of course is easier said than done!

Part of the problem with the cheap season tickets is it turns off the "occasional" supporter. I can't afford to go to Bulls and City regularly, so since I prefer my RL, I choose rugby. I do like to go to watch City every now and again though when finances permit, but although the season tickets work out at something like £6 a game (maybe even less), it's £20 for a ticket for a single game.

That much of a difference in price just puts me off as I struggle to justify paying £20 for that as well as the money I spend on Bulls games.

It's swings and roundabouts really, as by having it that way, it puts off the occasional fan, but if it was cheaper for individual games (say a tenner a game), not as many season tickets would be sold as the benefit of that would be lessened.

that is my problem with the bulls at the moment. I go to city, and including beer, food and transport for me and two of my sons, i can get away with paying about £30.

To go to bulls would be £18 for me and £11 each for two kids, just to stand. add on £3 each to tarnsfer and that is £49 before i have even thought about food and drink. Last season, I only paid to attend one home game. I brought the wife and kids and after food and drink had little change from £80. and for what??? the product was not only expensive, but rubbish too.

I would love to go to every game. I went to the Giants game and loved it. a friendly atmosphere, much more so than a football match, but economics and child care dictate whats what in our house. I justify going to city by taking two of our kids off the Mrs hands. we cant afford us all to go to bulls, so i stay at home and watch on sky, or like last year travelled to ther clubs on a sunday, taking advantage of their special offers. ( saw 3 Cas home games last year for £20 for four of us!)

That's absolutely spot on. My Mrs doesn't want to go every week but she used used to go to around seven or eight games a year at Odsal, but since I've had a seat in the stand (it didn't matter on the terraces) she wouldn't be able to sit with me so she only goes to a few away games these days. It's the same if you try to encourage a mate to go.....it's pointless with a season ticket in the stand.
