FA is correct TT, it's a genuine problem. Remember, the site was a council tip during the early part of the 20th century and, as was the custom back then, there were no regulations as to what could, or couldn't, be tipped; it all went in without checks, so basically no-one knows what's in there - just that unspecific "chemicals" were involved. You may remember that the old superdome plan was going to clean up the site, but obviously never got started.

I suggest you look on Google maps or something to see just how much acreage there is down the side of the M62. Much of it with direct access to the M606. Unlike Odsal, the only access to which is via the residential and narrow Stadium Road.

Prologis Park at the top of the M606 is already a work in progress and has over 12 acres available, deliverable in 24 weeks, if anybody wants some. The Euroway, Low Moor Trading Estate and others have plenty of ready built units already standing. And that's all just within a spit.

If I recall there was a specific element wherein the EU was going to pay for the decontamination work.

I have a vague memory of going to the that tip in the early 70s. The driver of the lorry we were in told me to watch the lorry in front. As it moved the ground sank under the wheels and then sprung back up as if it was a bed of foam rubber or something. Similarly we were moving as if we were on a huge mattress.

Are you sure you weren't accidentally driving over Solomona taking a post-prandial nap? icon_biggrin.gif

Stuart Duffy told me that the contamination was part of the reason the Coral Stand is effectively built on stilts (and not in case of flooding!). Apparently various surveys and feasibility studies done over the years for various ill fated developments (lots of them) picked up all sorts of nasties in the ground.

There are gas vents in the land behind the fence behind the coral stand.

When I was a kid, around six or seven years old, I used to pull bottles and jars out of there when I got fed up of watching the rugby - and like most kids I had the attention span of a gnat on speed, so we're talking lots of bottles!! It's a wonder I got out alive. icon_confused.gif

I presumed they were for dischuffed fans who jumped up out of their freebie seats 5 minutes before the end of matches following another wonder pass from Paul Sykes to end it all.

All of which has nothing to do with whether Odsal could or could not be developed .

I posted earlier commenting on what fan's hopes are for the future and have just come on and read nothing but negative comments about the iconic ground. Im afraid Bulls fans it is time to stick together and be positive for the future. Sometimes referred to as 'spin'. If ever there was a time for positive spin its now.

I think it does - with lots of empty units and available land without the contamination problem around the 606 why would a developer spend £'ms for the privilege of developing Odsal where the site would have to be decontaminated first.

We clearly aren't going to get an investor just willing to throw cash at the club - so the consortiums would be looking for ways to turn a profit from other activties with the rugby as an add on, and in the current climate it wont be easy

Indeed, just as this thread also had nothing to do with that, until the moment you decided to throw that weird comment in! Who said Odsal "could not be developed"?? What you actually said was that Odsal's...location near to the M606/62 could make it prime development land for large industrial storage or warehousing and distribution'"

My response was nothing at all to do with whether it "could be developed". [iAnything[/i "could" be developed. The North face of the fscking Eiger "could" be developed, but that doesn't make it prime development land for industrial storage, now does it? icon_rolleyes.gif

I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right! Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness. Crikey , some posters on here are getting super defensive icon_eek.gif

Its fair to say most fair minded RL fans want the Bulls to survive , but some people need to be a bit more contrite otherwise Charity fatique may start kicking in and sympathy could ebb away fast .

So if "iconic" Odsal can't realistically be developed...who are these "predators" that the RFL bought out the lease to protect you from???

Ironically, the RFL taking the lease is the thing stopping the consortia getting hold of the Bulls - if they wanted the Bulls, buying out a lease, which is on already on favourable terms, would not even factor into the equation.

They want access to the land - rugby is secondary.
