To be fair he coached us during a bad period. Although we came off the 2005 GF win and 2006 WCC win there was a lot behind the scenes financially that wasn’t right that we never saw as fans. Peacock had seen the signs and went to Leeds. Pryce left for Saints. And the cheaper replacements obviously weren’t as good. Half our youth had left in previous years as we couldn’t fit them (Atkins, Ferres etc) in the side so for 3 years we didn’t really have anyone barring Cook, Halley and Burgess coming through.
He brought the likes of Addy, Olbison, O’Brien, and Whitehead through. Some of the better youth we have had recently. He also made some quality signings in Morrison, Menzies, Tadulala and Platt (1st year). He actually did really well with what he had but ultimatly was restricted. Look at 2010, he brought in Kearney, L’Estrange and Orford and the team were 4th at the midway point of the season, just a shame Orford got injured when he did.
He also brought the England team closer to beating Australia and although he never did the games were the closest they had been for a few years and we’ve built on that. Also done well with Catalan.
Anyway back on topic! Hope we get a 10,000 plus crowd and get some noise going and give it to Leeds. Been a while and I’m sure the lads will be keen to rip in. Hope we get over early doors to cause a bit of panic in their ranks and hopefully batter their pack as it has been all season!
