TBF Mick I don't think there has been any personal abuse on this thread.

In terms of your social media comments I think you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. People will put their spin on anything. You need to be careful what you say on air too.

I'd refrain from commenting about anything other than the facts - it's safer all round and you and everyone else knows the score. That way you avoid embarrassment like after the Mathers signing.

The most respected journos build up a reputation for not putting their own spin on things and get renowned for being reliable.

Others like that prat with connections to Leigh and Salford are seen as a joke.

Keep up the good work.

Quote: MicktheGled "Excuse me, leading fans on?

Robbie Hunter Paul leaving the club in my opinion is a very newsworthy piece which on Friday night when that tweet was put out was 'breaking news' for anyone who supports or follows the club.

Saturday morning the club phoned me deciding to embargo the news till Monday out of respect for RHP and the BCB news on Saturday shifted to Koukash pulling out of Salford and the news about Lee Gaskell, Paul Clough and Dale Ferguson.

What I don't expect is personal abuse. Good Day.'"

Give it up Mick you love to make out your in the know with the tweets.

Apologies, the abuse myselfand Ross are getting is from the Twitter/Facebook crowd, although a few do post on here.

Those people accusing me and Ross of scaremongering should know that after the defeat at Featherstone Rovers, a current club employee and an ex director of the club both said "the club's ####ed" and that "they'll be no club this time next week."

Raw feelings aside, comments like this don't help the situation, especially when made to myself, Ross, Dave Craven, Yorkshire Radio etc.

As I've always said, transparent accountability, absolute commitment and effort from everyone at the club is all supporters ask for. You give that and they will always support you.

Righty as you state Sam, the same does go for broadcasters and journalists.

That was brilliant Mick. I actually laughed out load when you said "Good day". Have you been watching Mary Poppins this morning?

In all fairness to those who've commented, I don't believe they are being nasty. As you're very aware, the fans are currently on tenterhooks. If you promise breaking news or an update from Marc Green but then don't deliver it (for whatever reason) then it will get people's backs up.

Chin up old boy. You're doing a spiffing job.

Mick, my last post was not abuse at you. You do a good job on BCB when I listen on the way to matches and occasionally during when I remember to take my radio to Odsal.
My point was and is that being a commentator who gets privileged insights into the club you do need to distance that job from being a fan who comments on here and other places. I have never tweeted or read them or face book whatever that is so I am commenting about this forum only.

In my job I deal in private and privileged information and must keep a clear demarcation between knowing something and then letting it out in other wider conversations. It is difficult to do that at times but I tell myself to smile and say nowt if someone asks me something that I can't comment on.

That was my point with your position and what is now a very uptight and worried group of fans who hang on every word they read or hear. When I said "leading fans on" it is purely saying you are leading people to conclusions due to not being able to give the full details. That means they make the rest up themselves which is usually wrong. That is why I think it is probably best to say nothing - or in other words, "shut up" till you can tell the whole story.

No offence was meant but media people need to be very careful what information they put out, the quality, amount and the timing of it.

Other than that i really do think you have improved the broadcasts greatly. Well done and keep smiling.

Am I the only person who doesn't think Mick is a good commentator?

Guess that just shows how pathetic the quality was before he joined, and I'm not very imaginative.

EOTD, Mick has always tried to post the 'breaking news' sort of topics. Whether he does it on purpose, they always seem to be very vague, which leads to people reading into them differently. He, like everyone else, has been talking/posting about potential takeovers. Then he goes tweeting about massive changes at the club coming up. Yes Robbie having a break is a change, but he must have foreseen that people will see that as a post to about a takeover.

On multiple occasions, his vague posts will have raised the hearts of so many fans, for them to be trodden on as soon as the true news comes out, causing anger towards him & the club.If his information had been from a credible source, I would have expected some good news. I know not to read too much into his posts. He has no one to blame but himself.

Big HeapOfBull.
Last year I was off work after two op's and couldn't make games and listened to BCB.
I can assure you it has improved from the chap who was a football fan who laughed at the end of every sentence he said and totally forgot to tell us what was happening. Mick has added some rugby knowledge to the broadcasts and tries to balance Hobson who say's the first thing that comes into his head and is all emotion which means he goes off on one regularly usually about ref's needing to be demoted to the pennine league. Nobody is perfect and BCB is a community station where they are all volunteers so we shouldn't complain too much as you generally get what you pay for in life and we do very well to get full commentary every game for free. It is a good station for those who can't get out of the house. Mick just needs a volume dial in his pocket for when Hobbo goes off on one so he can just turn it right down without him knowing.

AS a member of the media surely Mick should tell us what he is told. Would you really want him to start censoring the info he is given. It is nice to get any comment as the club tell us f$$k all.

Didnt Gledhill put a tweet out the other night saying Fax were in financial difficulty along with a couple more clubs. He soon took it down for some reason........

A friend of mine writes for the Liverpool Echo and reports on Liverpool FC he has been told plenty of things by the club in the past with some things having to be kept secret. The Bulls need to decide what the say should be kept secret or can be made public knowledge.

I'm not one of those constantly saying that 'the club should make a statement, but I do wonder whether the complete lack of any information from the club isn't helping. Lack of information creates a vacuum, especially in our social media / instant news culture, that some are only to happy to fill with rumour and speculation. It's not just Mick, by any means, who gets sucked into filling the vacuum.

Over the past few months we've had a whole series of worrying things happening at the Bulls, and very little information about steps being taken to address them. It all started imo, with the departure of Rob Parker, who (unless I missed the memo) wasn't replaced. He's been followed out of the door by Steve Ferres and, now, (temporarily? who knows?) Robbie Paul. So far as I can see we are now down to the skeleton staff that we had during one of our Admin periods i.e Stuart Duffy doing everything! Added to which we have the curious case of our owner / chairman taking an extended foreign holiday during the season. And thats before we even start on Winding Up Petitions, HMRC, the abject failure to make the Top 4, wages not being paid, people allegedly refusing to play etc etc

Is it any wonder that speculation rises? I'm not expecting the club to feel they have to make daily statements for assuage the fans. But, come on, Marc Green is the guy that came into the club saying that he was an honest, straight forward guy who was going to totally transparent and open. Perhaps a bit more information would be a reasonable expectation?

It sounds like Mick's tweeting about impending financial difficulties were based on something said to him by an ex-director. 'Ex' being the important part of that. It was also immediately after the game had finished so no doubt the guy was having some knee-jerk reactions.

Mick ran with it, depsite the information being inaccurate. Easy to say that now with hindsight, but I guess it's always better to be prudent in those circumstances.

It's easy to forget that, above all else, Mick is just a Bulls fan like the rest of us. His hard work on the commentary scene has led him to where he is now, perhaps his enthusiasm for the club gets the better of him sometimes. If I had any advice to offer Mick I'd just remind him that he has a bit more responsibility now than perhaps he's had in the past, and to try and remain professional on social media rather than letting the Bulls fan in him get carried away.

Mick has told me who made the comments but it will hold my water. The more important thing for me is once cornered he denied it was about the club.

Mick seems to backtrack on a lot of the statements he makes. Deletes tweets when they're found to be untrue then gets indignant when someone calls him out about it. If he's going to post gossip, he can't then deny saying or doing it
