'Royds' is the new name 'they' came up with for Woodside estate and some other bits, I believe it comes from Royds Hall which isn't that far from the very bottom end of the estate. Though the top end of Woodside is really in Buttershaw [which runs either side of the Halifax rd and up to around Harbour Rd/Wibsey Park Avenue, from the former Kings Head to to the Shelf border]. When I was a kid and lived at the top of Woodside, Buttershaw was always part of our address. Incidentally most of the 'Buttershaw' estate isn't in Buttershaw and much of it is in Wibs.....ZZZZzzzzzz[sizezzzz[/size

And Royds Hall is technically in Low Moor.

I guess it is really, as is the whole of the bottom end of Abb Scott Lane....It was easy, many years ago, when clear green fields lay between all these different places, but now, with the general urban sprawl which has overtaken Bradford, and to be fair all other towns and cities, it's not quite so easy to say just [iexactly[/i where the boundaries lie.

| What is the last place in Bradford before you're officially a traitor for not watching Fax?
Is Shelf the main contested area?
I'm saying all this as an ignorant Leeds lad so excuse the lack of area knowledge.

| Not that I'm wanting to get into the debate about Wibsey or Low Moor BUT...as my family were original Wibsonians? I can definitely confirm that Great Grandpappy Abraham lived on Wibsey Slack (or Slackside even) and his great Grandpops was married in what was Wibsey Chapel at that time ie Holy Trinity Low Moor which of course was part of Wibsey,,,see the Chapel House pub so named after Wibsey Chapel.
It's gonna be a long closed season what with local history and click counting season tickets??? think I'll go lie in the darkened room now!

My sister lives in Shelf and is a Bulls' fan, though she, like me, was brought up in Bradford. My brother-in-law calls himself a Halifax fan [though can't actually remember when he last went..] and probably sees more Bulls than Fax, probably since my sister is more likely to suggest going to the rugby and she wouldn't suggest going to the Shay..unless the Bulls were playing there!
Certainly from the days when I lived on Woodside there was quite a lot of 'cross fraternisation' with girls from Shelf [and vice versa, obviously..] so I guess, a bit like Pudsey, there are many mixed and cross allegiances. I know Fax, or at least their fans, moaned about the Bulls targetting the Shelf area with match adverts but it's not much over a couple of miles from Odsal, at the end of the day.

| I always felt Shelf roundabout was the boundary, pretty much running from the lights at Queensbury, through Hipperholme with Brighouse being the border with Huddersfield. I've no idea whether this corresponds to any real boundary or whether it is some kind of ancestral thing like Palestine pre-six day war.
Having thought about I believe Bailiff Bridge and Northowram were given to us by God. There!

| Shelf roundabout [ Stone Chair]is quite near the boundary between Shelf and Halifax, though both are in Calderdale, of course. The Shelf/ Bradford boundary is actually a stream which flows under the main Bfd/ Hx road alongside the former [now business units] Dunn Ridsdale dyeworks, which is about 50 metres after the top end of the Woodside estate when travelling towards Halifax.
The stream meanders around quite a bit, at one point passing under Cooper Lane just a bit below the end of Reevy Rd, which means the bottom end is in Shelf whilst the top bit is in Bradford. I could have given you the house numbers for the boundary when I used to deliver papers around there, however my mind is now so stuffed full with rubbish I seem to have forgotten them....

| Yes but they're only in "Calderdale" if you treat "Calderdale" as a legit place, it isn't, it's a purely bogus virtual admin area like "Humberside" or "Greater Manchester". When I lived in Shelf we were at the right side of Stone Chair yet had to pay council tax to "Calderdale". Well they may be able to take your money but they can't take your soul. Sob.

| Ferres in today's T&A says we've passed the 1500 mark.
I'm still yet to get mine, I'll wait until January I think.
Anyway, as you were.
