| He would be worth the gamble on some sort of pay as you play deal because the guy is class, but is his head in the right place.

| Its not that simple. You'd have to assign him a salary cap value, regardless of how many games he actually played. And, for a number of reasons, I really really doubt the club would want to risk signing someone who could cause significant issues off the park, on a number of levels. Last thing we want is the club getting a reputation as a last chance saloon for players with issues. Leave that to Wakey...

Although John Kear also had a reputation for getting the best out of players on their last chances....

I'm guessing you didn't see Paul Cooke in 2010?

Different issues, not directly affecting the club or its personnel and certainly not health issues.

Not the same at all to be fair. Bridge, despite the problems, was a young player with all his potential still to come whilst Gleeson's best days are long gone, imo. For sure, you can both win and lose these kind of deals but Gleeson's best days were at Saints and with his early Wire form........it's a long time ago and not worth the risk. In any case the threequarters are sorted for next year......hopefully!

Totally agree Adey.
It seems we've scraped a decent 'pledge' total this time round, at least better than many expected, but the club could be in the last chance saloon with that if there isn't more consistency in the coming year. Put simply, I just don't think the club can risk another year like the last, and avoiding outside bets like this one seems a reasonable way to go in that regard.

That's not what you said. You said "..a last chance saloon for players with issues." Which describes Raynor to a tee, I would wager when the real reasons for his departure come clear it will reinforce this. If it's health issues specifically, you took a massive gamble on Sculthorpe, which backfired.
