There was no possibility whatsoever of us keeping him, so the question is anyway academic. He was determined to go back, and from a lot earlier than he ever acknowledged or admitted. There were big issues with him that meant that we were very well rid of him. Whether his subsequent club had similar issues, and whether (as in our case) the parties deemed it highly inappropriate to play it all out in public - we may never know? But, regardless of whatever physical injuries he may have struggled with this year, I can't say what happened with him at Canberra came as a huge surprise to me.
