| Quote: Roofaldo "I really hope we don't sign Pryce. Not because he's not a good player. But he's not the good player we NEED. We've got Jeffries, Briggs, and possibly Herbert who can all play the half back role Pryce plays. We need someone like a Paul Deacon, Henry Paul, hell even Matt Orford type of player to give the team better direction and leadership from half back'"
Exactly what I've been saying for months. Pryce is a better running standoff than any off the players we already have, no argument. He isnt a better organiser though and thats the role that has to be the priority for me. jeffries and herbert can both do the organising role in a limited fashion but neither are a long term solution IMO. Either of them would look a lot better alongside a decent organising half though.
Suspect once the Saints/Catalans game is out of way then Catalans will announce Pryce signing next week.

| He's a better runner, passer, organiser, off loader, tackle breaker, try scorer, leader.
He's simply different league.

| whilst i agree with some of the points, pryce is a must sign if we have a chance to. he is a class above any of our backs and provides many options without using a quota spot.

| Really don't get the logic of not wanting to sign a top class halfback. Neither Herbert or Briggs are good enough IMO. Yes we need an organiser but we also need a dangerous running threat from HB. Who is this top class organising halfback that wants to join us?

not a case of not wanting to sign him (bit academic as hes gone to catalans anyway). just fact that weve got a few players who can play 7 to a reasonable, albeit not world class, standard. We have no one IMO who can play 6 at anything like an acceptable level and signing pryce wouldnt address that. So for me sorting the 6 position out has to be the priority. If we can accomodate a better 7 too, then great.

We haven't got anyone who can play 6 or 7 to a top half of Super League standard.

wouldnt argue with that. but the players we have, have more potential improvement as 7's than as 6's IMO.

| The saddest thing about Pryce by far is that he was ours, would have been happy to stay and play 6, and we let him go for no reason. We could have had him playing 6 for us for all these years, and still. But then one area where we do undoubtedly lead SL is in crazy transfer bloopers, with Harris incoming a distance clear of the outgoing Menzies, Pryce, Morrison [iet al[/i.

Pollsters doing Excellent job - say recent polls.: |
|
| You could say that a lot of our transfer bloopers/oversights/ruddy great holes in recruitment were forced/dictated by the Harris signing.

And the Orford fiasco.
But regarding Pryce, I think a lot of people are looking at him through rose-tinted glasses. He was a good player in our glory days of SL. But as many have noted, he does go missing in games and he's also been out injured most of a year. He'd also be past 30 when he'll be available to sign for us.
I'm not saying he's not a good player. I'm not saying he wouldn't improve our squad. What I'm saying is that he wouldn't be coming cheap and that we need an organisational half more than we need a running half.

| TBH we need both, we need somebody to run at the defence and put them in two minds and somebody to organise something other than a flat pass and crossfield bomb.
