| Quote: Gurus_Beard "Given your "form", evidently not.
My pleasure. Works in tandem with your irony and similar inability to address a previous point and respond with a mind-blowing "Wow".
But then you will know more than GH obviously, who made the appointment to very clearly place his club in eternal decline. Because he does things like that ya see. Nor will he have consulted the likes of Peacock, Sinfield or Senior regarding Maccas coaching. No, he just wouldn't do that. He should have listened to an internet forum moderator. Because that's where it's really at.'"
GH obviously wouldn't make a decision to deliberately derail his own club but everyone makes mistakes at some stage. Similarly, Peacock, Sinfield and Senior may speak highly of Brian McDermott's coaching ability but, as an example, Steve McNamara received similar plaudits when he took over from Brian Noble. In fact, some senior players still stand right behind McNamara as a coach despite his record at Bradford. It's good to listen to your players but sometimes their views can be clouded by other factors (maybe the player feeling they 'owe' the coach something for a specific role in their development) and somethimes they can just be wrong.
Personally I feel Brian Mac will do alright at Leeds but it's never a simple case of fact and fiction. A number of factors will arise to determine his relative success or failure. But cherry-picking facts to suit your argument for McDermott while ignoring the undeniable positive abilities possessed by Mick Potter is a little disingenuous. Both have pros and cons as coaches and both should go fine with their respective clubs this season.

You're just being rude there considering you had a pop at someone earlier in the thread for using the phrase 'the likes of' when picking out examples of Leeds players. You're obviously a knowledgeable bloke, why resort to cheap insults?

I sustained my point.
At what point do I need your assistance or suggestions? Oh that's right, I don't. So on ya go flower with your new alias.

What are Potters undeniable positive abilities? Losing multiple finals?'"
My real alias? What's your real alias? Not that I should have to explain myself to anyone on an anonymous internet forum but I very rarely post on here mainly because I very rarely feel the desire to. I read posts with interest and was engaged enough by this thread to contribute.
I could easily turn your question back on you to read: 'What are McDermott's undeniable positive abilities? Losing multiple games.' But that would just be futile.
If you really need me to point things out to you. He was an accomplished player and two-time Dally M Medallist, served a solid coaching apprenticeship under Matty Elliott, has coached at both junior and senior levels and has a reasonable track record of aiding young players' development, improved an upstart Catalans Dragons side enough to take them to a Challenge Cup final and a top-three finish (heights they have failed to come close to since) and reached two Grand Finals with Saints.
Yes, he lost both of those finals and that is an obvious blot on his copybook. But just as Potter has his faults, so does McDermott, something you seem to forget at times.

Would you care to clarify what you mean by this point, given the fact that you consistently backed "Macca" for all the time he was at Bradford?
Or is it the fact that now he is away he has suddenly become crap?
After all, you always seemed to disagree with anyone who ever slated McNamara but there now seems to be a bit of a shift in opinion here. I may be "moaning" but at least I do not change my views in order to suit the argument.....
As for McDermott v McNamara??? Not so sure but TBH, I do not give a stuff HOW McDermott goes, just as long as our own new boss does a job. More interested in my own side I have to say.

I don't but thanks for feeling compelled to do so. Accomplished player? That's ok then. Makes him a stand out coach too.

And won?
If only he had some outstanding talent at his disposal like Cunningham, Eastmond, Wellens, Gidley, Peletua, Roby, Pryce.

...is the right answer.

In which case I apologise.
And to Guru's Beard: I wasn't trying to lead your behaviour in any way, merely making an observation and then voicing my opinion. I find your suggestion I am a current board member masquerading as someone else a touch insulting but short of offering my full name and legal documents I wouldn't be able to fully satisfy you. In any case, I'm not bothered who you think I am.

Lovely.
So, back to it, what are McDermotts faults in relation to the great Mick Potter?

| Gurus. I haven't been involved in the whole London players debate here, but I would appreciate if you could answer a question as I'm intrigued.
Who, IN YOUR OPINION (i.e. Google is useless here unless you have a blog it will show up) do you think is a London player that has been brought through with "real talent"?
I'd be interested to know who you are referring to.

Do the research yourself. When you get home and can use Google. Or the internet in general.

I'm not asking who other people think are real talent. I want YOUR OPINION. That's not on Google or the internet as far as I can see. Unless you can provide a link where you have expressed this?
