| Welham's a decent player, imo.
Whether I believe him to be the bloke for us depends on the other ins and outs, to be honest. It's impossible to comment on any individual signing without the context of who comes with him and who leaves.

| If in CH then worth a punt depending who is leaving if we get up think there are better players who may be available

| If you are still in the championship Welham will be a good signing for you, but not for SL, he has had a decent season for us, but he is not really SL stuff.

| I noticed him against us, but not because he was good, because he was always fouling. I think if you go up, lots of experience and an ok signing, if you don't, a good signing. Difficulty is, when things are upin the air this late in the season, it's difficult to do anything.

| Seems you're quite strong in centre position but he has had a really solid season this season imo. If I had it my way he'd be with us again next year, formed a very solid partnership with Mantellato on our left. Not like there's much better than him available on the market, especially English.

| Some potential, but I think his role as Chesney disrupts his training too much, he needs to choose.

| I like ginger knacks, or I have done when I've seen him play. That said not seen much for couple a years but he was a good prospect a few years back.
Is he any better than what we have, Blythe, Purtell, Nielsen? He would be ideal to come in and put some pressure on our other centres but didn't he sign a five year deal at KR when he was highly thought of?
Probably on a good whack and wants to find something similar.

| 101 tries in a 190 games for us had a really good season for us but the two previous to that were very average

I'd say he's no better than what we have, to be honest. You can also add in Walshaw as a centre too, though we'll presumably be losing Phillipe-Baile, Adam Henry, Ryan Shaw and Chev Walker, all occasional centres, so much of the 'depth' will be gone.
I think we've clearly yet to see the best from Nielson though, whilst he's been 'steady' he's not looked like the State of Origin player he was. In terms of Welham, it depends on lots of things, in particular which division we're going to be in, whether Jimmy feels we need more depth and who else might be available, though for my money, whichever division, I feel we need to concentrate on more quality than depth. We definitely went too far on depth this year with a number of players not even getting a game and I'm not sure we can really afford to that again..

| Certainly don't think we've seen too much from Nielsen in an attacking sense. Do think he's tightened up our defense down that considerably though which was like a revolving door earlier in season. Think a Pre-season will help him a lot as he doesn't look 100% match fit. Think We've definitely seen last of henry, shaw and walker. not so sure about baille. There were rumours he was homesick earlier in year but he does seem to still be featuring in 19 man squad fairly regularly so maybe he is staying, although I'd expect him to be mainly a 2nd row going forward and just a emergency .

| To be fair to Nielsen, he was MoM versus Widnes albeit in amongst some poor performances from some others in our side. I would agree, that defensively he looks calm and organised and not much has got past him in the games I've seen. I think he does fairly well considering the time spent not playing, flying to the other side of the world and slotting into a new team.
As for Welham, he's always struck me as a dependable and strong centre. He's probably a good fit for a lower end SL club and will do very well if dropping to Championship. Given the position we'll be in re recruitment if we do win the £1M game, I'd say he'd be a decent signing. I expect quite of our fringe outside backs will be moving on.

| I'm just as sceptical about signing Welham as I was about us signing Caro. So I dunno.
I hope mat is right about Baile!

Yeah, agree with that.
The players I mentioned were simply the ones who haven't [yet] been re-signed for next season - Chev, we know is to be on the backroom staff next year, but with no mention of new contracts for the others, so I'd guess they will be leaving for pastures new. Maybe contracts for certain players depend on the result at Wakey? I'd expect this might possibly have a bearing on it.
