Indeed.
And how should we set about getting one?

| Posted on the pledge thread - but probably better here:
Interesting that he singles out Southernwood along with Diskin and Kearney - maybe he'll play a bigger part than we thought, especially if we don't get the stand-off we are chasing.

He does, but he didn't seem very enthusiastic to me when he mentioned Cain. Maybe I was reading too much into it though.

way it sounded to me was cain was doing an ok job in the standoff role in training until the proper standoff arrives. didnt sound to me like potter considered him ready to do role in 1st team yet. just way I interpreted it. interesting as seem to remember plenty of wakey fans telling us standoff was his best position when we signed him.

That's kind of what I meant. I wasn't saying he didn't rate Cain, just that the way he referred to him as doing "ok" was more of a suggestion he didn't think he'd be using him in the first team too much straight away.
It's difficult to know though as he's only just got there so can't have seen too much of everyone himself. His knowledge of how they've been going in training will be more based on what St. Hilaire & Evans have told him.

Or more astutely, he has no desire to place unrealistic expectations on the lad for 2011.

I thought that as well mate, he wasn't overly enthusiastic.
But I think it's widely accepted within the club that Cain won't be rushed due to his size, and won't be featuring too much this year.

Yeh Alan Langer was a giant of a man.

Allan Langer was 5ft 5 and weighed 88kg.
Cain Southernwood has five inch more in terms of height, and is 5kg less.
It was Paul Medley's words, not mine, in saying Southernwood wouldn't be rushed due to his size.

I'd be more concerned as to what the Head Coach thought.

Hmm, considering how Medley works with him in the U20's on a regular basis, I'd assume he'd have as good an opinion as most. And the indication he wasn't played by the head coach seems to suggest he backs up Medley's views.

Yeah, they pretty much alluded to that at the Fans Forum. The indication was that he'd be used as a backup player and will probably get some game time, but certainly won't be relied upon to play week in, week out.
