| Quote: PONNER "After watching it again on SKY i'd say it was no worse that Bradfords. I have no quarms with the penalties Ganson pulled us for but letting the Bulls get away with exactly the same and worse was a little odd.
Agreed. For example i thought the penalties against Lolesi + Robbo were given for 'holding down' for less time than many non penalised Bulls tackles. L'Estrange was slowing the PTB all night including holding the tackled players' ankles and a few other moves out of the Manly play book.

| You two seriously think that both teams were doing the same amount of holding down? Try watching it again without the rose tints on. I like Huddersfield, I've always liked them. I would like them to do well. But the only way they're going to be doing that this year is by cutting out that very very poor discipline. I sincerely hope they do, so that when they play against a more in-form team, they don't end up losing loads of points because of needless spoiling tactics and ruining the otherwise very good play. Their defence last night was excellent at times. They nearly ruined it though by just not learning from their mistakes.
As far as Robinson's sin bin goes, it had nothing to do with how long he held down for. He was penalised for holding down, but the yellow card was because of the situation in which he did it (i.e. immediately after a break from Sheriffe and to stop a potential advantage - i.e. professional foul). Gilmour's yellow was due to the fact he'd been at it all night and had in fact been singled out earlier in the game by the referee (listen to his comments to Hodgson when he pulls him for the warning).
Rather than pointing fingers at referees and suggesting he was one-sided, you might want to be more concerned with not ruining future good play with needless poor discipline. If you can cut out the pointless penalties, you could be a very very good side.

I did not say they were doing anything equally - where did you see that? Try reading my post again without your rose tints on
where did I refer to Robbo being sin binned? - where did you see that?. try reading my post again without your rose tints on
As i actually did say.."the penalties against Lolesi + Robbo were given for 'holding down' for less time than many non penalised Bulls tackles"
I watched the game again and this is true. as were my comments about L'Estrange. if you choose not to see that so be it.

And if it were a question of stopwatch "time" then you might even have a point. Sadly for you, in the real world, the offence is committed when you reach the point where you need to let the tackled player go, but you decide not to. It is nothing - AT ALL - to do with "stopwatch time". On that basis, (which we call the "Rules"icon_wink.gif Shudds were 100% correctly penalised every time they gave away a pen., for trying to cheat, and well done the ref. for applying the laws correctly.

Well done. In the game there were occassions when a Bulls player should have let go and did not and was not penalised. A Giant behaving similarly was more likely to be penalised.
I have not questioned whether the calls re the Giants were 100% correct, but thanks for the heads up.
The references you made to 'stopwatch time' were quaint.

| ATEOTD the Bulls held down in the tackle as long as us but were allowed to get away with it. Near the start of the match Bradford knocked on over our line yet we were made to drop out. Another call was when Haley(i think) knocked the ball back in after we'd attempted to kick for touch from a penalty, ok it went backwards but another Bulls player came from an offside position to pick the ball up. Finally how the fog video ref could give Reardon's try was beyond me when it is clear to see that his elbow hits the floor just before the try line but that was as near as the ball got to being touched down. To be honest though I was expecting any call from that onion munching fruit cake.
Hey it's just a good job we won or else i'd be moaning

| That's just it though, isn't it. The Giants did rightfully win.
Gawd knows how many more of their posts they'd have been on here about how they'd been unfairly done to HAD they lost Jeez. . . . .

| 1. Langley
2. Sheriffe
3. Orford
Thought Reardon takes a lot of the blame for us getting into a losing position, through getting himself into a hopelessly out of position position, not once, but twice.
Sheriffe looked like a decent player for once, and for the second time did one of those runs, which we should have capitalised on.
Orford will do OK. I'd have said it would take at least half a dozen games for him to even begin to fully understand the games of the players around him, and they his, and to start the beginnings of a well oiled machine, but as the game wore on, Orford got more and more into it. Some of his passing was outstanding.
My biggest moans haven't changed from last season, or the season before that:
(a) constantly coughing up possession, often under little pressure, and
(b) a largely tame and ineffectual, occasionally dire, set of fifth tackle options.
Orford is my solution to (b), and hopefully Karneey (as we shall now have to call him, apparently). But what we do about (a), fsck knows. When we had that sequence of 80 penalties on their line against 12 men, I said to our lass "We'll drop it on the 3rd tackle". It was the 4th.

It will improve, Imo alot of our errors on friday were because we were over excited and just wanted to sprint to the tryline. Hopefully we'll calm down next week and put in a full 80 minute performance.

Scruton
Orford - good touches, hopefully will split teams open when the others have gelled with the way he plays and all the passes stick or aren't overrun
Can't see how Reardon can be included, he was miles away from where he should have been for the two tries Cudjoe got - although Nero was also to blame.

| Well if Saints are anything like they were last night then next week will be a fine opportunity to pick up 2 points.

| I would accept that Reardon was not in the right position for the chip that led to the 2nd try but if you watch the tape (IMO) the Giants excelled all night with the dummy runners attacking our lin one out from d/h, running around the back and creating an overlap that forced the inside defenders to go for the wrong man. This in turn dragged everyone in and whilst cut out pass to Cudjoe made try he had to come in or centre would have had a walk in through a massive hole.
Unfortunately they put this play on on several occassions scoring two tries and they really should have had more. We managed it only once when Reardon scored.

| Never realised how massive Michael Lawerence is. He's a big lad and defensivley very good. Wouldn't mind him at Bulls at all.
