Seems to me he's only happy when he is trying to make himself and everyone else thoroughly miserable and depressed. Very sad.

Of course, IF you`re actually happy to live in a state of being depressed and miserable then you would, very naturally, feel it would be only nice and neighbourly to spread sadness and depression around.
