Is it? Smells more like total bullshhit to me, as Kopczak was under contract to the Bulls but chose to walk out. He was the only player to do so. Sidlow has not walked out on his team-mates at a key point mid-season. Salford, Sidlow and the Bulls have handled the transfer properly and amicably. Kopczak just walked, claiming to be a free agent.

I don't have as much problem with Kopczak as some people, though what he did was disappointing, but there really is no comparison between the two cases. Anyone with half a brain knows this.

The continuing references right from the start that Platt was part of a deal is the biggest clue that discussions occurred between the clubs, not any tapping up. And with the benefit of our recent experience, we see helping Salford to cut their wages bill when they need to as a good thing and if previous management here had been as proactive things may have been very different.

Tapping up is where a club makes an unhand offer directly to the player and/or his agent. That player is induced into breaking or otherwise making his deal with his current employers untenable forcing them to allow him to leave. Like Huddersfield did with Kopczak.

Making an approach for a player by one club to another is the usual, legal way that things are done in terms of transfers. Club A have an interest in Player A who plays for Club B. Club A contact Club B and say we'd like to sign Player A. Club B can then, if they chose to, say no. As seen when Leeds contacted Bradford about the availability of Lulia.

If the selling club is happy with the deal offered they can accept and allow the buying club to speak to the player and discuss terms regarding his move.
